I didn't watch the match but I think we have got a bit lucky today. 2 missed penalties and 1 disallowed goal for Brighton and we still come away with a clean sheet and a win.

A win is a win regardless of how it happens so I'm still happy. We are now 8 points behind Newcastle and 3 matches unbeaten so there is some belief back.

Everton and Newcastle at home and then Palace away to come.

Well we got away with that, played well for 20 minutes then back to normal, but how lucky where we? Two missed penalties and battered for 70 minutes, we looked good when on the front foot, maybe its still a confidence issue?

Could be worse, in the week Brighton has 75% of the ball and 25 shots and still lost... Big Grin

No idea how we didn’t lose that game, let alone win it. We were unbelievably lucky to be playing a team whose forwards couldn’t hit a cow’s arse with a banjo. I’m delighted we got the win but concerned at the tactics of concede possession and just defend, mostly in the second half. When we brought on Ivanovic after 75 minutes Allardyce basically decided it was now attack against defence and we gave up any attacking intent. OK, we got away with it but I’ve no idea how.

We didn't deserve to win today. Started well, but were poor thereafter. Sat too deep and couldn't get out.

That said I don't think Brighton deserved to win either, a draw probably would've been a fair result on the balance of chances.

Brighton dominated the ball but as usual, didn't really create much. Their one good chance with Connolley was from a Johnstone error parrying into danger, but they created nothing otherwise. Yes, they missed 2 pens, but the first was fortuitous and the second was IMO a clean tackle. As for the free kick controversy, well clearly Mason shouldn't have blown - how can you blow when the goalkeeper is readying the wall?

It was a dirty performance to get the 3 points, but I think that luck was overdue.

On the plus side, I never expected us to get anything from this game as I've watched Brighton a lot this season and think they are in a false position. I thought even a good performance would probably get us a draw. So to perform crap with lots of players not turning up - Pereira, Phillips, Grady, Diagne - I can't really grumble. But we're going to need to perform a lot better than that to gather points in other games. I do wonder if we're going to be able to persist with the likes of Pereira when he can't even be arsed to challenge for 50/50s.

I think you've just summed up Brighton. If they had a good forward or 2, they'd be top half.

Just shows that if you have one area of the side that's only fit for the Championship - attack, midfield or defence - you're always going to struggle at this level. Brighton have got some really useful players in defence and midfield, but with that useless attack, they're always going to struggle for goals. Their forward line is the attack version of our midfield pre-January window.

Well here's a strange one (from the BBC write up):
The Baggies' past five home Premier League wins have come under a different manager - Allardyce, Slaven Bilic, Darren Moore, Alan Pardew and Tony Pulis.

You know I couldn’t give a monkeys how we played, we’ve had no luck all season with Var and ridiculous ref’s today at last it’s gone our way. We have added a couple of very talented players and along with Bartley they played there part. Yes we will probably go down but now we are starting to fight, since Allardyce has bought these players in we have looked and played a lot better. Onwards and upwards boing boing.
