It's Ray Potter in goal, and it's definitely Ray Barlow and Stu Williams. (Chuck Drury was a few inches shorter than Ray). And pretty sure it's Bobby Smith as well.

You're right, talkSAFt, I've no idea why I thought he was Graham Potter when he was one of the first keepers I saw at the Hawthorns. As I recall, the first was Jock Wallace, such a long time ago now Wink

If we get 3pts tonight - then the confidence might be enough to get a point or more at Spurs - If we get 4 pts from these two games I will delay the sleeping tablets and whiskey

Gibbs, Furlong and Gallagher drop the bench.

Phillips, Townsend and Diagne come in.

No shock really as Gibbs and Gallagher were responsible for the 2 goals. Although a bit surprising to see Phillips favoured over Gallagher nevertheless.

Not sure if it will be 3 at the back with Phillips at wing back or 4-4-2 with O'Shea right back. Probably the letter.

I presume deadline day signings aren't eligible for this round of games and it's not just because we're playing on a Tuesday. Would be pretty crap if other teams get an advantage for playing tomorrow.

Phillips - Livermore - Snodgrass - Robinson
Pereira

robinson and phillips can get up and down the wings as their natural positions then pereira as a playmaker behind a proper centre forward could be good livermore and snodgrass hopefully get stuck in to break things up and we might have half a chance this is an absolute must win thank god I don't have bt sports its too unbearable to watch

Fairly confident first half
Well organised
Good defending and attacking quite well
Not very often I say these things at half time

Looking MUCH better!
For me it's the work rate that seems to be up 100% for most, giving US a spare man when in possession. How many times have we seen THAT this season?!
Some lovely angled first time passes too, and Pereira looks interested again!
The Snod effect or the Big Sam effect?

BIG 45 coming up!

Interesting half because Sheffield United have had all of the ball, but we look more threatening on the occasions we have it. Probably deserve to be in front.

The key improvements seem to be having a midfielder who can win a 50/50 in Snodgrass and committing more bodies in the box generally. Both were on display for the goal where Snodgrass nipped in and won the ball in a situation where any other midfielder would've stood off. That win of possession lead to the move where Phillips was on hand to capitalise on the goalkeeper's spill.

Did anyone see Sam screaming at Conor Townsend to get forward? He's no Pulis, he's the one demanding these players actually commit to breaking with purpose.

My one fear is that we are sitting a bit too deep and if that continues, Sheffield United will capitalise. We're giving them too many opportunities to run at our box while we're deep and not closing down the shots.

But going forward there is a marked improvement. In Diagne we have a proper number 9 who is able to link up with his back to goal and bring others in. It seems that whenever the ball goes up to him, we have the opportunity to make something happen.

Result can go in any direction, but if we don't make any cock ups or give away silly fouls, it feels like we should get more chances on the break.

But generally speaking, so far, so good.
