He picked the wrong team against Charlton. If CC knew the players were tired (he's been watching them all week), then why pick them.

Hooper should never have started and neither should Hutchinson and Lee.

Joao, Semedo and McGugan all should have played.

Bad time to lose but I fully expect us to get back on track against Huddersfield who look awful.

I thought Hooper did well feeding on scraps but think he would have done better coming on at half time. I thought Lee was the pick of our midfield although that is not a major accolade. Bannan was far less effective. While he continued to be involved & chased all over the pitch, the quality of his passes & his crossing was not there.

Hutchinson will now get over three weeks rest.

I think that Hunt & Pudil also showed fatigue. Hunt was caught out of position for two of their goals although that maybe that he just isn't a good defender.

A two week break will help but remember that Joao & Pudil are on international duty so may come back tired. I would certainly be rotating the team over the next four matches. Something like:

Huddersfield: Westwood, Hunt, Lees, Loovens, Wiggins, McGugan, Lee, Wallace, FF, Bannan, Hooper

Blackburn: Westwood, Palmer, Lees, Sasso, Pudil, Semedo, Lopez, Sougou, FF, Bannan, Joao

Stoke: Wildsmith, Hunt, Lees, Loovens, Pudil, Hutchinson, Lee, Wallace, Bannan, Helan, Joao

Derby: Westwood, Palmer, Lees, Sasso, Pudil, Hutchinson, Lee, Wallace, FF, Helan, Hooper

This gives every player except Lees at least one game rest out of the four, which at least means we play against Derby on a level playing field, which we will need if we are to compete against them.

Sougou & Lopez should be fit to play in two weeks.
Matias should be fit in 2-4 weeks
Melo & Loovens not known
Turner 4-6 weeks

Lopez had began to train last Thursday, probably didn't want to rush him back with the Int break.

Sick of hearing CC offering the excuse that the team was "out of energy." We now have the luxury of being able to make whole scale changes to the line up. Why didn't he do it? He only made changes to the forward line. Sorry CC, but your excuse doesn't cut it - not with the squad we have now. You chose to put "out of energy" players on the field.

I think CC was trying to be cheeky. Thinking we were well in stride and could pull it off against a bottom 3 club whom hadn't scored in 8 hours. And us coming off the back of 2-3 clean sheets? So Hooper got a full run out..

A few mistakes, and as pissed as I was at the time I have to remind myself this is CC and his team's first season here and they deserve a little bit of "trial & error". It's very annoying for us to still do the typical Wednesday thing, and blow it against a team like Charlton. However, things will and are continuing to get better all around the club.

Charlton were up for it, they played like we SHOULD have played. They deserved the points and that stings.

Pasting Huddersfield would almost erase this though Big Grin

I feel that Hull, Boro, Derby & Burnley could all get 90 points so letting points like this go could be critical as far as automatic promotion is concerned.

IMO, CC got his team selection wrong. In truth, he has got it wrong over a series of matches. Once he had decided to go with a full strength team against Arsenal then he had to rest players over the next three matches. The Charlton performance was no surprise; it was coming as shown in the performances against Forest & Brighton.

RE: Match Thread - Charlton v SWFC - peiowl - 09-11-2015

I wasn't able to take in the game but Barry, Helan and Sasso started on the bench. He hardly ever plays Barry. Why did he bother to sign him? Sorry, but CC's excuse is a lame one. It's his team selection that has to bear a lot of the blame.
