Nothing to do with Town but this seems to be the place to post any other football business so..

The host Cities have been picked for the 2026 World Cup and its going to be huge.

For a start it will have 48 teams competing, the most ever for a World Cup
They will be split into 16 groups of 3 with the top 2 from each group going through to the knockout stages starting with the Round of 32
Each confederation will see a rise in qualification spots as a result of the increased teams in the finals (previous World Cups in Brackets)
Oceania will get 1.5 (0.5)
Asian 8.5 (4.5)
North, Central and Caribbean 6.5 (3.5)
Africa 9 (5)
South America 6.5 (4.5)
UEFA 16 (13)

It'll played over 3 Countries which are Canada, USA and Mexico
Atlanta - Mercedes-Benz Stadium
Boston - Gillette Stadium
Dallas - AT&T Stadium
Guadalajara - Estadio Akron
Houston - NRG Stadium
Kansas City - Arrowhead Stadium
Los Angeles - SoFi Stadium
Mexico City - Estadio Azteca
Miami - Hard Rock Stadium
Monterrey - Estadio BBVA
New York/New Jersey - MetLife Stadium
Philadelphia - Lincoln Financial Field
San Francisco Bay Area - Levi's Stadium
Seattle - Lumen Field
Toronto - BMO Field
Vancouver - BC Place

So potentially some huge trips to be made although they reckon the initial group games will be played close together so no traveling from Mexico to Canada.

It all sounds like a logistical nightmare to me

You'd best get saving up then. Looks like a lot of travelling involved there.
Abviousley FIFA have no interest in saving the planet. Pointless excessive travelling.

We'd probably go to the 2 group games and apply for a final ticket, in between we could go visit Mitzi's mate who lives in Canada and take in the Rockies.

I know Qatar has it's problems/doubters(rightly so by the way) but travelling around between games is certainly not one of them, I think it's one of the reasons it appealed to me, well that and sunny weather in November and December Smile

Not much difference Toronto to Vancouver compared to Toronto to Mexico City tbh Wakey. Hopefully as you say they organise them so they are all played in one of the 3 regions (west, central or eastern). You might still be flying around a bit even so.

I think they lump in Toronto with Boston and Vancouver with Seattle

RE: Not The Town O'Clock News - theo_luddite - 17-06-2022

Yup, but I also saw something that lumped one Mexico venue in the west and another in the central group. So Vancouver and Mexico isn't off the table but you'd like to think they'll have north and south splits within the west, central and eastern thing. This is FIFA and mostly USA brains at work however. They came up with this 3 country thing in the first place.

Kasey Palmer signs for Coventry.

RE: Not The Town O'Clock News - Lord Snooty - 22-06-2022

Ian Bennett on the move. He's left Boro and is now goalkeeper coach for Donny Rovers.

Wayne Rooney's Direby County will henceforth just be known as Direby County, Joltin Wayne has left and gone away.
What was that Mrs. Robinson?
