On an earlier discussion I said I would like to see refs be able to explain their thinking about the decisions they made during a game, give them the  opportunity to tell us why they gave a decision and maybe even accept that they were wrong with hindsight, this would be a classic case for the ref to be able to give his version, but we know that's not going to happen.

I agree but as Keith Hackett says, the foul ticked all the boxes to make it a penalty.

Great to hear Howard Webb on MNF last night.

The foul ticked all the boxes yes, unless the simulation preceded the foul, in which case that would take precedence!!

What did Howard Webb have to say??

Keith Hackett said that simulation only takes place if there is no foul so even if Maguire dived, it didn't matter. Exagerating makes no difference.

Howard Webb was going through a number of issues. He was very impressive on a number of issues although he didn't specifically talk about the Wednesday penalty incident.
