Trump stands for everything I'm against: bigotry, racism, elitism, misogyny, antiquated views on the environment, attitude to women... I had hoped to visit my friends again this year who live in Palm Springs, Ca, We were also interested in a Florida winter holiday. That won't happen now. My wife and I will not be traveling to the US with this monster in power. SCO, Stateside, Washington and others, you have my deepest sympathies. It's a sad, sad day.

All you can do is try to look at the lighter side of this, after all thats the British way of dealing with adversity. And on that note, you should definitely come to Palm Spring CA, we now have legalized marijuana here so you can come and get high!!!!

On a serious note though, I am not at all convinced he as a person is all of those things you mention. He knew what to say to get elected, he knew what his base supporters wanted to hear, he knew the rust belt would love his rhetoric on factories moving to Mexico as a result of NAFTA, basically he knew how to work his audience into a frenzy!! He is the ultimate showman and entertainer!!! Now lets see what he actually wants to do and what he is prepared to do, I am hoping its different to the guy we have seen on the campaign, not a lot of faith but a bit of hope!!

He is a loathsome individual and please don't take offence at this but my wife and I had already. decided not to travel to the states if he got elected.

I can tell you that Canadians in general are horrified that such an individual is to become President of a country which we hold in high esteem.

So upset at this.

No offence taken. Don't quite understand why you wouldn't travel to the US while he is President but thats your choice. While Americans are maybe not as horrified as Canadians may be, there is a sense of bewilderment over the result, but over here essentially 50% of the people you speak to who voted will have voted for him, so the level of hysteria is tempered.

Interestingly, a local news show interviewed people in the street to get their reaction. Couple of people said they won't travel to states now. Took my daughter out tonight and she said the same thing. Again. this is not meant in a supercilious sense but I'm so grateful I live in Canada. My very best to all my friends in the U.S. but why Ffs did you elecy such a despicable man?

I'll leave it there SCO. I'm getting very depressed over this.

RE: Thread For Anything But Football - Statesideowl - 10-11-2016

I do agree with what you said there Charlie.

I also know the bar has lowered for USA Presidential candidates... There will be so many unforeseen consequences of this. The first being The USA has a fully grown man that speaks/articulates at the level of a 6yr old.

There's always bliss and comfort in the middle classes because the loss is never 'EVERYTHING' and at best, a change of culture and way of life..

There were zillions of people who tried to minimize Hitler's rise to power in the 1930s. "Oh, he won't really do this or that." But, he did. And the rest as they say is history. "When will they ever learn....?"
