RE: WBA Summer 2015 Transfer Window - silverbaggie - 23-06-2015 Birmingham Mail reporting that Tony Pulis wants to bring in another centre back as Lescott, McAuley and Olsson are all now in their thirties. The name of Steven Caulker of QPR is being suggested. That's in addition to Matt Phillips. They also suggest we are now favourites to sign Demba Ba (assuming we can afford him) RE: WBA Summer 2015 Transfer Window - wba_1996 - 23-06-2015 Caulker I suggested before he signed for Cardiff, and again last season before he went to QPR. Yes he has suffered back-to-back relegation's but he is a good, young, quick centre back with a lot of potential. I think under Pulis he would blossom into a solid defender as he won't be exposed due to the lack of organisation and tactical naivety of Cardiff, QPR and their respective managers. I do know that Palace's failure to land Caulker last summer was one of the reasons TP walked so it is definitely a player he admires. It would be quite a coup for us to have the England under 21 centre back partnership of a couple of seasons ago in Dawson and Caulker, who were tipped to break through into the first team - and still could with a couple of good seasons judging by the current England defence. Watched him few times last season. He tends to panic to much for me and his positioning isn't the best. Decent centre halves are well sought after and he wouldn't be at QPR if he was any good, or would he? Gmac has paid off for us so maybe I'm wrong and he will be a star if we sign him. RE: WBA Summer 2015 Transfer Window - Tom_Wba - 24-06-2015 Albion representatives on their way to Turkey it seems, Blimey this could actually happen http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/west-brom-send-representatives-istanbul-9518701#ICID=FB-Birm-wba RE: WBA Summer 2015 Transfer Window - Kookiebags - 24-06-2015 Aternoon All, I think we need to get some perspective of where we are now, and what we need to do to progress. We have let go, in my opinion, some very talented players , with the likes of Dorrans, Mulumbu and Billy Jones being fans favourites, who, while not being exactly world beaters, seem to be "in demand" and able to secure starting berths at their respective clubs (I am sure Mulu will start for Norwich, he is better than most of what they have). They produced the goods when asked, but were they ever replaced with better quality. Some of this we will never know, as the likes of Gamboa, Davidson, Samaras, Poco , and the other "knee jerk" buys of last season were never given time or trusted to see what they could really bring to the table. TP was given a brief to keep us up, which he did, but he was not expansive or daring, but relied on his "trusted troops", but maybe now , his own team will develop ? We need to support Saido, reduce the age of the back 4, and provide width as an option if plan A fails, and TP will get rid of what he doesnt need, and bring it what he does. It may be that some of the talent that TP deems an improvement may not be the high priced names that are being bandied about. We rarely pay big, but maybe this time, a big signing is necessary, that may mean top wages rather than high transfer fee, but surely not both, JP would have a fit! There is still plenty of time, the Transfer Window officially opens next week, then after 5 or 6 days of toing and froing, the REAL DEALS ,and hard fought scouting work will start to develop, and, hopefully, we have done our "due dligence", and have a plan. Lets just wait and see. Cheers, Kookiebags. RE: WBA Summer 2015 Transfer Window - betterthanbaird - 24-06-2015 I'm trying to contain my excitement about Ba while there's still so much competition for him. Apparently Panathanaikos want lescott, I think they want a slap. RE: WBA Summer 2015 Transfer Window - BaggieMan - 24-06-2015 The prospect of a Ba/Berahino strike force is an exciting one as long as we hang on to the latter. Could become part of a second Three Degrees! I have to wonder why Besiktas seem so keen to move him on. Did he not have knee problems some years ago when Sjoke were on the brink of signing him and he failed a medical? Hope we have done the due diligence and had medical reports. Never can trust these Jonny Foreigners you know ! ![]() RE: WBA Summer 2015 Transfer Window - Tom_Wba - 25-06-2015 This Ba transfer speculation reminds me very much of the Riviere will he won't he saga this time last year, Bill Howell from the mail has said no representatives have flown to Turkey, I'm questioning whether or not we really are that interested in signing Ba I said a similar thing to Lepkowski last regarding Riviere and was told i didn't know what i was talking about & got stick off a couple of others when i suggested the first he'd know about a striker arriving is when its a done deal then Ideye arrived two days later under the radar ![]() I'm half expecting a new striker to arrive under the radar again RE: WBA Summer 2015 Transfer Window - GlassEyedBomber - 25-06-2015 8mil for Mings? Bournemouth must be drunk. |
