RE: Sporting Predictions 2025 - theo_luddite - 19-05-2025 A busy weekend of sport where we only had the FA Cup Final with points up for grabs, but plenty other sports that conclude later in the year also saw plenty of action. In motor sport .... Crash Verstappen won the F1 at Imola in a dress rehearsal for next weekend's procession around the streets and harbour of Monaco. The result left Piastri in 1st, Norris 2nd and Verstappen in 3rd in the standings, with McLaren well ahead in the Contructors battle. You have until "Lights Out" on Sunday if you want to change your prediction for Monaco. The shaleshifters were in Warsaw, Poland in the amazing looking PGE Narodowy stadium that holds ovr 50,000 people. https://www.fimspeedway.com/rounds/orlen-oil-fim-speedway-gp-of-poland-warsaw Jack Holder grabbed the win in the final from fellow Aussie Brady Kurtz, reversing the heat 19 result, ahead of Polish riders Dudek and Kubera. Zmarzlik had an off-night by his standards, only recording 2 heat wins in his initial 5 rides and finishing 3rd in the qualifier. Aussie Jason Doyle had a spectacular crash which left him in hospital. Posting on Instagram early on Sunday afternoon, Doyle wrote: “Firstly…..thank you for the kind wishes and support! Last night ended full gas into a fence. “As you may notice my model career has come to an end! And so has my dancing with the stars day! “I dislocated my left hip and just took a good beating! I'll be back very soon!” https://www.instagram.com/jasondoyle69/p/DJy6F_lsACh/ Current standings look like this. ![]() On the other side of the pond we now know who the East and West Conference Finals will be between in the hoop shooting and pond hockey. In the NBA, the Eastern Final will be between the Indiana Pacers and the Noo Yark Knicks. The Western Final will feature Oklahoma City Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves. That leaves just Snoots and myself in with a shout. The Knicks beat Boston Celtics to eliminate themaclad, SCO and SHEP. ![]() In the puck pushing/ice fighting (NHL) the Eastern Final will be between Florida and Carolina whilst the Western Final will be beween Dallas and Edmonton. That leaves themaclad, SCO, jjamez, SHEP and ritchie with a look in still in the barns. Toronto losing to Florida and Washington barely turning up against Carolina eliminated AmChaff and myself. ![]() Conference Finals start Tuesday/Wednesday this week. RE: Sporting Predictions 2025 - theo_luddite - 25-05-2025 Today's F1 snoozefest, Do Not Pass Go, Go Directly to the Pits and Change your Tyres, Twice, was the predictable procession after Saturday's qualifying. I think they need to put the guys in Super Mario Go Karts and give them all a handful of coconuts to fire at the drivers in front of them to make this race interesting. Either that or give the fans by the swimming pool the option to flood the track. Oh, hang on, that was kill-a-driver Barmy Bernie Ecclestone's idea. Anyhooo, points for Snoots, AmChaff and SHEP, who's having a good weekend all round. Put your feet up tomorrow SHEP, you deserve it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Current F1 Standings ![]() ![]() RE: Sporting Predictions 2025 - theo_luddite - 30-05-2025 Another busy weekend of sport with The French Open getting to the half-way point. I thought at least one of our GB Ladies might make it to at least R3, but no, they are all back home or still waiting for a seat on Eurostar at Gare du Nord. I can take or leave tennis but it was a cracking match late into the night between Gaël Monfils and Jack Draper last night, with Draper eventually winning in 4 sets as Monfils visibly tired in the 4th after going 4-2 up and looked good to make it 2 sets all. Due to the luck of the draw we'll only have at most 2 Brits (or at least 1) in the 4th Round as Norrie and Fearley play each other in the 3rd. For our picks, all the Ladies are still invloved, in the Mens, Ruud (ritchie) bit the clay dust in R2, the rest are through to R3. Motor sport roars on with F1 boys compleing a tour of The Med countries with The Barcelona Grand Prix. The shale shifters are in Prague on Saturday night. Jason Doyle thought he was on the road to recovery following his crash in Warsaw the other week, so he decided to get back on his bike and unfortunately came straight back off it again and did at least as much damage to his hip as last time. He'll be replaced this weekend by Danish racer Leon Madsen. The Rugby League Super League is well underway and I'll post a table update after the weekend's games have played out. Finally it's The UEFA Champions League Final in Munich on Saturday night, but we've all lost interest in a match between PSG and Inter Milan. RE: Sporting Predictions 2025 - theo_luddite - 01-06-2025 There's still a bit of tennis going on in Paris, but at least the fireworks and riots have finished in France. Why can't they win anything without causing mayhem in their own country (let alone capital city)? They are just as bad in Montreal and Quebec City over the pond on the odd occassion they win Lord Stanley's Shaving Mug or something else. Speaking of which, we now know the finalists for the Pond Hocky and Hoop Shooting contests. In the Hoop Shooting, Oklahoma City Thunder (theo - who he then?) beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 4 games to 1 to win the Western Final, whilst The Noo Yark Knicks (Snoots) came up short losing 2 -4 to Indiana Pacers (noooooobody). So that's me, myself and I against the Pacers in the final. In the 5-a-side Ice Dancing, both Edmonton (SCO, jjamez, SHEP, ritchie) and Florida (themaclad) won their Division titles 4-1. So that leaves a 4v1 barney in the barns to sort that one out. The F1 today was won by Aussie Mr. Piastri with his English team mate 2nd again. Did some of us pick the wrong McLaren driver? Crash lived up to his name trying to take Russell out afer being told to let him pass. A 10 second penalty left him in 10th when some former drivers were calling for him to be black flagged. The Shale shifters were in Prague on Saturday night in a meeting that saw barely a slack handfull of races won by riders who didn't come out of trap 1. Ultimately Smarzlick got his act back together and goes back to leading the series. Freddie Lingren finished 2nd and 3rd place was taken by Leon Madsen who had stepped in to replace the injured Jason Doyle. Possibly a few red faces on the selection committee there then. In the Rugby League, after 13 games each, Hull KR are top on 24 points with Wigan 2 points behind. They've lost 3 games between them so far whilst 3rd and 4th placed Leeds and Leigh have both lost 4 each. At t'other end, Huddersfield and Salford have only won one game each whilst just above them Castleford have won 3. St. Helens are decisively mid-table at the moment, won 7 lost 6 for those that backed them. Challenge Cup Final next weekend. We've still got 2 Brits involved in Paris, which I might have mentioned earlier if I hadn't gone on a rant about PSG fans and Froggies in general. Most of us are still involved one way or another. Special mentions in competitions we aren't involved in - Simon Yates for winning the Giro D'Italia, Oldham Pathetic are back in the EFL, Joe √ pulled England out of the fire v Windies to win the One Day series, PSG battered Inter in Munich before the cause of my rant above but none of us picked either. There's likely others but it's well into wine time Sunday so enjoy what's left of the weekend. RE: Sporting Predictions 2025 - Lord Snooty - 02-06-2025 Mr Pastry ![]() RE: Sporting Predictions 2025 - theo_luddite - 02-06-2025 Joe le Taxi pour les Brits. Gare de Nord sil vous plais. Au revoir Paris. Everyone served and volleyed out in the 4th round or before. There's always an extra week to warm up for Wombledon as an advantage, if it ever stops raining that is. RE: Sporting Predictions 2025 - theo_luddite - 03-06-2025 The Quarter Finals are served up today and tomorrow in Paris. One of Djokovic and Zverev (tomorrow's night match) won't be in the Semi and when they are, they will likely be meeting Sinner. Alcaraz has a clear run amongst our predicitions in the lower half of the draw to meet one of the other 3 in the final. Sabalenka and Swiatek will meet in the Semi if they both win (obvs) with Gauff also having a clear run to the final in the lower half. RE: Sporting Predictions 2025 - theo_luddite - 05-06-2025 In the French Froggy Tennis - It's between Sabalenka and Gauff so that's Snoots, themaclad, SCO and me v SHEP in the Ladies draw. Men's semis tomorrow RE: Sporting Predictions 2025 - theo_luddite - 07-06-2025 Sinner (themaclad, SHEP) beat Djokovic (Snoots) in as close-a-match 3 setter as you're likely to see. will the Serb hang up his rackets come the end of the season? Sinner will play Alcaraz (AmChaff, SCO, theo) in the final after his opponent Musetti hobbled off in the 4th set. RL Challenge Cup Final today, not Sunday as I've got it for some reason ![]() RE: Sporting Predictions 2025 - themaclad - 07-06-2025 Remember that Fox miss when it used to be a proper game played in Winter |
