Swansea were dangerous down the left and right sides last night and if they still had Bony the game would have been over before we got the goal. Against any of the better sides we will get obliterated unless Dawson doesn’t go forward at all and brunty is not a left back, simple as. So then, with three slowish players at the back, who marks any fast wide-men (wingers, for the old) under this juggling with numbers? The problem still exists, surely? Exactly right BB We seem to have invested in plenty of CB options Lescott Olsson Gmac Dawson Baird and no decent LB or RB for some time now Wisdom hasn't really impressed with his defending side of the game which is obviously what TP thinks Poco hasn't got into the team for some time and as I've mentioned i think he's an accident waiting to happen and it seems I'm not the only one to think that as Lescott and now Brunt are getting the nod there. Gamboa... has anyone even seen him play? Lord knows whats wrong there obviously something isn't right or he'd be playing? Wiki says he has defensive and attacking skill had a good world cup so answers anyone because he sounds like the ideal option over wisdom and Dawson??? ![]() RE: WBA vs Swansea - Match Thread - talkSAFT - 12-02-2015 Gamboa had a great World Cup, and I was rubbing my hands when we signed him. Pulis is on record as saying he builds a team around the players available (rather than employing his own tactics full stop). So, I'm sure he could see the benefits of a fast overlapping RB - but now he's gone and encouraged the acquisition of Manamana! Don't get it - but I'll put my faith in him. True the problem will obv still occur but to me, the RB is up and down that wing therefore may start behind the winger after attacking where as the CB should never be caught infront of the winger and so pace should be less of a problem due to the CB already being in a position to defend. Theoretically of course. ![]() (12-02-2015, 18:44)talkSAFT Wrote: Gamboa had a great World Cup, and I was rubbing my hands when we signed him. In that logic we should be playing both Gamboa and Davidson as internationally both have been top of there games. I believe Davidson was named in the team of the tournament in the Asian cup. RE: WBA vs Swansea - Match Thread - Slick_Footwork - 12-02-2015 Dawson got done quite a few times, but to be honest, what right back doesn't Montero destroy? He's the best one on one dribbler in the league. I don't think there's a right back in the capable of containing him. Every time I've seen him, he's torn the right back apart. Fortunately he doesn't have much end product and whenever he got a cross in, we dealt with it. I don't really think any of our other options would've been able to handle him either. TP is picking a team to be effective in both boxes and with what we have at our disposal, it's working. Further to your remarks about TP, I like this extract I've just seen from: WalesOnline, 12th Feb 2015. TONY PULIS LOOKS TO BE DOING IT AGAIN? What can you say about the Welshman that has not been said before? After the job he did at Stoke and keeping Crystal Palace up last term he seems to be doing it again at West Brom. It is just one defeat in seven games since he took charge at the club. The image of Pulis’ approach to the game is always about directness and the long-ball, but to be fair that was not the case when it came to the Baggies here. The home side got it down and wanted to play and they rattled the Swans quite a lot. They got in behind and there were plenty of crosses for the Swans defence to deal with too. Monk still has a lot to learn in the game naturally and he can learn a thing or two from Pulis. RE: WBA vs Swansea - Match Thread - betterthanbaird - 13-02-2015 Quite a good performance overall, and the front 2 looked good together, class finishes for both goals and it's always nice to keep a clean sheet. |
