The Baggies Head Coach was thrilled to complete a double-deal day when the 28-year-old England striker followed Egypt international defender Ali Gabr into the Club. Both players will add to Pardew’s options and capabilities as the Baggies prepare for a League and FA Cup challenge over the second half of the campaign. And Pardew believes the signing of the multi-medal winning Sturridge amid significant rival interest from both at home and abroad sends out a significant message. “I hope our fans can understand that we are fighting to stay in the Premier League, not just on the pitch but in the market place as well,” said Pardew. “This is a big coup for us and I speak for my staff and my players and say ‘thank you’ to Daniel for agreeing to assist us in League and Cup. “He has fantastic talent and will strengthen our ambitions on both fronts.” Birmingham-born Sturridge says joining the Baggies and returning to his home city felt like a natural fit. “This felt like the right fit,” he said. “I’ve got friends here I’ve played with before, the manager spoke very well, the challenge with the team and the style of play . . . I just felt this was the right fit for me.” The 28-year-old arrives at The Hawthorns with 74 top-flight goals from just 114 starts. He has also netted on 27 occasions in cup competitions. The England striker has eight goals and 26 senior caps to his name. Birmingham-born Sturridge began his professional career with Manchester City before joining Chelsea in 2009. The Blues claimed a Premier League and FA Cup double in his first season at Stamford Bridge. He went on to earn another FA Cup medal in 2012 - helping Chelsea claim their first Champions League title two weeks later. During his only other loan spell he fired Bolton Wanderers to safety with eight goals in just 12 appearances as they beat the drop in 2011. He signed for Liverpool in January 2013 and boasts an impressive 63 goals in 90 starts for the Reds in all competitions. Sturridge is a two-time recipient of the Premier League Player of the Month award, in August 2013 and February 2014. RE: WBA Transfer Window - 29th January 2018 - talkSAFT - 30-01-2018 West Ham have sacked their Head Scout. David O'Sullivan said it was unacceptable that he stayed in bed with flu yesterday while WBA lured Daniel Sturridge from Liverpool. "I wondered where that bloke with dark glasses was, who always follows me around." said Albion's Recruitment Manager. RE: WBA Transfer Window - 29th January 2018 - Salopbaggie - 30-01-2018 Well I'll goo to the foot of our stairs Sturridge signed. So we get a quality player and no Deeney. Double result RE: WBA Transfer Window - 29th January 2018 - drewks - 30-01-2018 As just mentioned on the Sturridge thread, surely there's no need to sell Evans now? Only for financial reasons maybe as his contract's running down, but then the summer would be best for us (presuming we stay up!) ? |
