I've got this (black & white) picture of our Beefy "rushing back", red-faced, his big gut swaying side-to-side, before collapsing on one of the 'goalposts'. ![]() RE: WBA 2018/19 Xfer Window - (1 June) Championship Rebuild - Beefy 1965 - 04-06-2018 Reports in Portugal are linking West Brom with a loan move for 22 year old Brazilian Sporting CP winger Matheus Pereira. Pereira spent 17/18 on loan at fellow Portuguese side G.D. Chaves scoring 7 goals in 27 appearances. #WBA https://t.co/feD3arA2xQ RE: WBA 2018/19 Xfer Window - (1 June) Championship Rebuild - silverbaggie - 04-06-2018 It's all gone so very quiet about the intentions of our existing squad players. Given the supposed multi club interest in some of our players, I would have expected one or two to have moved on by now. I can foresee bigger priorities if the rumours of most of our defence leaving are true, together with one or both of our two main strikers. However, I'd be happy to see us play Phillips in a more central role, one that he's recently been playing for Scotland. RE: WBA 2018/19 Xfer Window - (1 June) Championship Rebuild - WBA-Josh - 04-06-2018 At the moment we have Phillips, Burke, McLean, Chadli and Leko. Chadli will definitely leave after the World Cup and McLean will probably also leave so we will definitely need to sign at least 1 winger. The Championship requires squad rotation and for that to work for the entire season we need to have 2 players for each position. So we need 2 left wingers and 2 right wingers; Phillips and Leko for the right and a new signing and Burke for the left for example. (I think Burke could be better on the left wing because he likes to drift around rather than stick to the wing. That’s probably why Pulis and Pardew didn’t like to use him) The way it’s going we could lose a big chunk of the squad and those players will definitely need to be replaced. We can’t afford to go into the season short in certain areas like we were under Tony Pulis. I completely agree that we need a deeper squad but I don't agree we have to have two players for each position. Such an approach would imply that you don't vary your tactics during the season but just rotate players through their "designated" positions. Provided we have seriously bolstered our forward line, I would not be concerned if we did not bring in another winger as I'm sure the players we would have would be sufficiently versatile to cope. RE: WBA 2018/19 Xfer Window - (1 June) Championship Rebuild - WBA-Josh - 04-06-2018 We are fortunate to have a very versatile squad with players who can play in multiple positions but I’d always choose having two for a position rather than not because if an injury or suspension crisis happens, it’s easier to put a direct replacement in rather than having to put someone in a position that they’re not as good in. In the wide position I’d also be worried if we go in to the season with only Phillips, Burke and Leko. Burke and Leko are still young and raw whilst Phillips always goes through highs and lows. I’d feel more confident if we signed a replacement for McLean if he chooses to leave. If McLean stays then we may be adequate. Palace want Livermore for £10 million. We want £15 million. https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/how-much-west-brom-want-14741792 RE: WBA 2018/19 Xfer Window - (1 June) Championship Rebuild - BaggieSteve - 04-06-2018 (04-06-2018, 21:02)WBA-Josh Wrote: We are fortunate to have a very versatile squad with players who can play in multiple positions but I’d always choose having two for a position rather than not because if an injury or suspension crisis happens, it’s easier to put a direct replacement in rather than having to put someone in a position that they’re not as good in. I'm a bit ambivalent about Livermore. Pre BD, I'd have accepted a free transfer but since then he seems to have performed and we've glimpsed a footballer somewhere in there. Having said that, I'd take £15 million for him and invest in a more creative, running midfielder since I feel we have, in Field and Yacob, players who would do a similar role to Livermore. Don't ask me to identify a creative midfielder though since everybody wants one of those. I'm still holding out for re-signing Mulumbu ![]() |
