RE: Burnley vs WBA - Match Thread - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 08-02-2015 It has to be said that the long balls only started happening after a first half in which we struggled to string enough passes together to get across the halfway line. That's not exactly a new problem with this team, either. There's no magic wand... RE: Burnley vs WBA - Match Thread - Slick_Footwork - 08-02-2015 The football has been absolute dross all season. I thought the Everton game at home was the worst footballing performance that I've seen from the Baggies since the Brian Little era. So it's not like Pulis has transformed a good side into playing poorly, it's been this way since Irvine got hold of them. I didn't agree with Pulis' selection today, but i'll judge him based on the position we finish. He inherited a team in the doldrums, hurtling towards relegated. If he keeps us up, he'll have done a good job. If we go down, he's failed. It's that simple. Unfortunately, we need a huge rebuild after years of poor recruitment and decisions. I firmly believe that we could've been comfortable this season with a decent coach installed at the start of the season, but Peace and co decided to go with a failure. It's hard to argue against Pulis as the best choice to keep us up, given his record. Anyone moaning about the football or style of play should really blame the board, it's their bad decisions, over and over again, that have left us where we had little choice but to employ TP. For me, the blame lies with JP. RE: Burnley vs WBA - Match Thread - Squirrel Regis - 08-02-2015 Tidy, That was at home, I stick with what I said we wouldn't drawn that game under Irvine. I know many don't like TP but with the shower of shit we have at the club it's survival at any cost. We can't score goals. That said 1st half was bad 2nd half good. RE: Burnley vs WBA - Match Thread - BBB - 08-02-2015 What is more worrying to get us out of the bottom lot, we are a game behind CPalace 13th then another game to go in front of Everton - as I say its going to be interesting at the end, and the GD, that must be worth something at present. 10 Stoke 24 -2 33 11 24 -6 31 12 Everton 24 -3 27 13 Crystal Palace 24 -8 - 26 14 Sunderland 24 -12 24 15 West Brom 24 -12 23 16 Aston Villa 24 -20 22 17 Burnley 24 -17 21 No Movement 18 Hull 24 -13 20 No Movement 19 QPR 24 -19 19 No Movement 20 Leicester Anyone betting on one of the bottom 3 to make a move up? RE: Burnley vs WBA - Match Thread - Squirrel Regis - 08-02-2015 Also Tidy you moan about Pullis so who would you have appointed ? For survival this season I would pick the current manager of the year who has never been relegated. And your choice is ? Irvine was a disastrous appointment, no one could see the logic or sense in it. As well as JP, I firmly believe Terry Burton is to blame there - and watch him sitting next to TP in TP's first media interview after being appointed - Burton strikes me as a 'Yes' man, and if he went tomorrow, would we miss him? If some of our squad aren't good enough, then starting now we need to ID some good, sensible transfer targets, starting with the back four, beginning at FB, and also targeting strikers. I'm not against them if we can keep the ball but they clearly weren't doing anything. (08-02-2015, 18:11)tidy Wrote: Ask yourself, given the original team selection, just what was the 'plan' today? Hit it to Anichebe and hope Sess/Mcman come up with something, otherwise rely on set pieces. RE: Burnley vs WBA - Match Thread - drewks - 08-02-2015 For me today, the most worrying aspect was that there seemed very little 'fight', or 'heart' from a lot of players, Exactly the thing that TP is famous for, we still seem to be lacking. Obviously the lack of specialist FB's is more than puzzling too, especially as we have 2 pretty fast and adventurous ones (Gamboa & Poco) already at the club. What is it about these 2 that makes them unpickable, and makes us finish with a CB and a midfielder in these positions today, struggling like buggery to cope? ![]() Not only is this giving us major problems defensively, it's not giving us anything going forward. I certainly wasn't expecting TP to suddenly turn us into Arsenal, but I WAS expecting square pegs in square holes, fight, and much better ball retention by now. Very disappointed at this moment in time ![]() ....oh, and if I was a Burnley fan I'd be really pigged off that my side only got 1 point; truthfully we deserved nothing today, and when you look at the point v Everton (same), AND the 3 points v Hull (struggled like mad against a very poor team), IMO we're actually fortunate to have as many points as we've got RE: Burnley vs WBA - Match Thread - GlassEyedBomber - 08-02-2015 Yep...dire! RE: Burnley vs WBA - Match Thread - Squirrel Regis - 08-02-2015 Recent penalties given against us have been very harsh but thank god for a bit of luck that G-Mac one was stone wall ! Even moved his arm towards the ball. |
