RE: Johnson watch activated - the nightmare begins for the UK!! - hibeejim21 - 17-03-2020 (17-03-2020, 13:04)themaclad Wrote: Scotland 7.3% deficit on GDP worst in Europe, unemployment worst in Britain, it it wasn't for the UK Government and the Barnett Formula you would be be destitute as for Austerity maybe it's time Saint Nicola stopped given out free stuff. The SNP are a one trick pony personally would love you to be Indpendent you soon find out how shit life would be, have you noticed price of oil recently 30 dollars a barrel. You have no idea what Scotland's deficit is till its properly independent....so 'xxxx up. The rest of your post is tin foil hat, howling at the moon garbage. RE: Johnson watch activated - the nightmare begins for the UK!! - 0762 - 17-03-2020 Hear hear!! On the Scottish deficit bullshit alone one can comment that the Scot govt runs an annual surplus, NOT A DEFICIT, and has done so every year since 2007. The provisional surplus for 2018-19 is £449M. On the other hand, UK govts have run annual deficits every year since 2001 - and most years since 1945!!!!!! Scotland only has a notional deficit if elements of this endemic UK deficit are apportioned hypothetically to the normal Scot govt surplus, as happens in the GERS paper exercise. I could go on re this "tin foil hat" crap (incl that old bogus unionist oil argument! ![]() RE: Johnson watch activated - the nightmare begins for the UK!! - ritchiebaby - 19-03-2020 Two positives from the Coronavirus outbreak - we don't have to listen to the SNP banging on about Independence every day (and I'm in favour) plus the Eurovision Song Contest is cancelled. RE: Johnson watch activated - the nightmare begins for the UK!! - 0762 - 20-03-2020 Add in no more "banging on" about the great utopia that was preached about Brexit and the wonderful new direction, and negotiation, that we were heading for even though, in Scotland's case, we didnae vote for it, and we are still totally opposed to being removed from the EU against our will!! THAT HASN'T CHANGED ONE JOT BUT A FAR BIGGER THREAT AND CHALLENGE HAS ARRIVED "ON OUR DOORSTEP" AND ALARMED EVERYONE TO THE POINT WHERE ALL OTHER POLITICAL INTIATIVES ARE TEMPORARILY SHELVED. RE: Johnson watch activated - the nightmare begins for the UK!! - ritchiebaby - 20-03-2020 That's three now, 0762, and I'm sure there will be more. Boris now has the chance to extend the 31 December 2020 date for completion of trade negotiations with the EU without losing face. Will he take it? I doubt it very much, although it is eminently sensible. RE: Johnson watch activated - the nightmare begins for the UK!! - 0762 - 20-03-2020 My perception of this fast-developing global catastrophe is that the US economy will take the biggest hit as part of the global recession that is unfolding as we debate these issues. And logically one must reiterate the folly of following a different negative trade strategy with the EU, compared to the decent one that the UK already has - it will be utter folly with no common sense attached to it whatsoever! That common phrase down the years, "driving the UK bus over a cliff" could not be any more fitting than now!! Who would've guessed that such a "force of nature" could have such a devastating effect on any country's economic direction and wise political leadership should be embracing a full rethink of "what was then and what is happening now"!! Anyway, the issue will be "on the back burner" for quite a while but one can occasionally still detect the partisan nature of the response from Johnson and his Brexit chums when this issue is raised. However, their "tripping faces" on the front benches really "says it all" re the realisation of the negative unforeseen implications to their master plan and the British economy. RE: Johnson watch activated - the nightmare begins for the UK!! - hibeejim21 - 20-03-2020 Johnson has this habit of setting arbitrary deadlines for things that are out of his control. It makes him seem decisive and in control when in fact he just refuses to recognise the facts. Out of the EU in January, regardless of whether there's a trade deal is xxxx nuts as we all know....... and now out of the coronavirus crisis regardless of whether it has ended or not in 12 weeks. This is what happens when you elect a PM that is a charlatan, a lifelong pathological liar and BS merchant. I also suspect like 0762 that the coronavirus is his fly in the ointment - its going to make a no-extension Brexit very hard if not impossible. RE: Johnson watch activated - the nightmare begins for the UK!! - ritchiebaby - 22-03-2020 I must say I was most impressed with Professor Jason Leitch on BBC Breakfast this morning. It takes a straight-talking Scot to get the basic message across. I still think it was a huge mistake to fight the virus following scientific modelling, instead of using basic common sense. But that chance has been lost. That's the trouble with so-called experts in most fields - "plenty brains, nae gumption"! And that applies to the hundreds, maybe thousands, of absolute cretins who try to get round the advice and still go out to pubs, beaches, parks, etc and live life as normal. They are the real dangers to society by spreading the virus. We, as a society, have produced a generation or two of people, who are not only "snowflakes" but also have the attitude of "I'll do exactly what I want and no-one is going to stop me". Before anyone has a go at me for daring to suggest such a theory, it is a broad generalisation but true nevertheless. RE: Johnson watch activated - the nightmare begins for the UK!! - 0762 - 22-03-2020 Just visit Portobello beach on a sunny day like today and study how many govt requests/rules have been violated! The same goes for all these mass incursions into rural areas in England and lotsa people trying to identify any "loopholes" in govt advice that they can exploit. The same goes for all these mass incursions into rural areas in England and lotsa people trying to identify any "loopholes" in govt advice that they can exploit. We are on a shelter in place order here in California and you can tell the vast majority are following the advice by the lack of cars on the roads and the empty retail car parks. We have had a week of rain this week but the sun is out yesterday and today so you have also seen quite a lot of people out for walks or bike rides, personally I am ok with this as long as you are moving and stay at least 6ft from anyone else. |
