As has been said already, although we are trying to get on the front foot in games we just don't seem to have the personell to execute it. Way too many misplaced ball, crossing was dire and far to often ended up hoofing out of defence.
Thought Jonny Evans was below average today.

Got lucky with the pen and quite rightly to balance out the bad decisions we had against us including the push on Jay earlier in the game today.

really need a win somewhere and fast. I'll have to watch sky go highlights at midnight tonight to look at the crucial decision and see how we played but TF we didn't lose that game today. Sounds like they had their bit of luck with a deflected free kick and we had some with the pen but thats football as they like to say and apparently thats our first pen since sept 2016 so were not exactly blessed in that department either. West Ham next omg another 6 pointer and this time we cannot must not dare not fluff this like we did at stoke please wba for once make us proud

P.S. The ref is a cockwomble and Arsene Wenger is a moaning merde.

Talksaft, the general consensus is that the goalkeeper covers 2/3 of the goal and the other 1/3 is covered by the player on the post. Having one player on each post takes a crucial player away from marking or wall duty.

Happy New Year everybody and all the best for 2018.

Thanks, Josh, and HNY to you and all others.

I'd have thought with a kick bang in front of goal that you could have one on each post and (say) 7 in the wall. Nobody needs to mark attackers, because the kicker could only float the ball at them, which the 3 on the line (or goalie rushing out) could deal with. The kicker is then very restricted.

Handball or Ballhand?
If you asked the FA to define "handball" they'd obviously use the term "intentional" and sidestep the issue. In my view the defender had no intent - it was a bodily reaction, which humans can't control, so there was definitely no "intention".
Refs should have a week-long debate about this issue in the Summer, and play the game themselves, so they know the difference. (Refs generally take up reffing because they failed as players, and so they can't spot the difference).
Nowadays it's becoming pot luck, and I can see the day when ANY handball is penalised (as in Hockey). Then we'll be getting wingers practising deliberately chipping the ball onto the defender's arm to get a penalty.

A hard earned point was thoroughly deserved. The club's tribute to Richard Eades was emotional.
I thought a majority of the players had a really good game with Phillips and Hegazy outstanding. Livermore was anonymous yet again. Arsenal were cheating from the start - falling down, holding their faces and so on. I thought there must have been a sniper in the stands! The free kick from which they scored from was a blatant dive between our two defenders. Mr Dean had a shocking game - apart from the penalty we got absolutely nothing from him. If you watch the penalty incident, Chambers does flick his arm up at the ball. Apart from that, several stonewall fouls on our players were waved away and the slightest touch on an Arsenal player resulted in a free kick and a booking for the Baggies player. Let's hope we can beat Wet Sham and climb up the table tomorrow night. Come on you Baggies!

Heartwarming to see Gooners joining in the applause. (I can think of a few sets of fans who would have spoilt the Tribute).

Going to be very hard to beat a west ham team with fresh legs after a week off even if they have as poor form as we do.
Can not see our tired legs managing a winning 90 minutes ..... but new year new hope.

Come on you Baggies .......

Apart from Dawson conceding the free kick that led to the goal the defense overall did great yesterday.
Phillips was MotM for me - not only causing their defense problems but he was tracking back and helping our defense.
But once again the game has shown our biggest weakness are our strikers...
HRK - a goal every now and then but offers little to nothing else.
Rondon - would be perfect if his goal tally matched his work rate.
Rodriguez - more of a winger, or at least he wants to be considering he spent the majority of yesterday's game on the wing.

I'm just praying we bring in an actual goal scorer in January!

still no Burke and McLean starting, really.??

RE: WBA New Year Match Thread - BaggieMan - 02-01-2018

Can’t understand why Pardew persists with McClean - yes, admire his enthusiasm but in truth he’s not Premiership standard. Would have liked to see Olly Burke or Sam Field start. I guess Brunty is tired after Arsenal and glad Yacob is back.
