The gulf between the two teams was so huge in that 2nd half!!! Their class and experience really showed through and while 7-0 may seem harsh, we were hammered in that second half!!! I don't mind losing, in fact I think most of us expected it, but 7-0 is disappointing and I hope SG can say some wise words to make sure we learn from this and it doesn't effect our league games!!

Tough to say isn't it, how do you pick yourself up from conceding 7 goals in 45 mins after 3 consecutive clean sheets

That was a right pasting, heads went down after the second and it spiralled out of control from there, they went straight for the jugular.

It's a really bitter pill to swallow we didn't deserve to get murdered like that.

I have never really had a conversation with anyone who was a professional footballer but you have to think that while you go into a game with the hope you could pull off the shock, generally they must think like us and know that once we conceded a couple of quick goals in the second half it was all over!! The difference was that Man City were completely clinical, a yard faster all over the pitch and were able to easily hit us on the break!!

SG has to make sure we learn from this and that the players aspire to be that good, but the reality is if we were to get promoted to the Prem than maybe only 2/3 of our current squad would be in the starting 11 in the prem. Every team that gets promoted pretty much revamps their team, those that don't tend to really struggle and that shows the gulf between us and the prem, you can then add the gulf between the bottom half of the prem and the top 4/5 teams!! That was so obvious tonight, and we shouldn't hang our heads because of it!! Man City will hammer some prem teams let alone us.

SCO, you are so right, but still a bitter pill, 3, 4 ..maybe 5 goals over the 90 mins was to be expected, but we never had a good go at them , which is annoying, maybe our players were overawed, but the big downer for me was Kirkland, if I was him I would have done everything to try to reclaim my Nop1 spot, but he flapped, was caught out of position and just fell over for lampards 2nd , , sell him and give a youngster a chance.
Other than that, 1st half was ok, even tried to play football when we were getting hammered, which is a good sign,.
All down to SG & the players attitude now, hopefully come Saturday they will all want to put this right , and if they do, than that's fine by me, if it affects them badly then we're fooked !

I'm not sure we were capable of having a go at them!! I think in the first half we were hanging on and got away with it to a degree, but our starting 11 tonight was incapable of sustaining the onslaught that came our way in the second half!!! That wasn't City's reserves we were up against either like we have seen in the past in the early rounds of this cup, that was an international quality 11 they put out!! I am glad that we didn't put our strongest 11 out either, that gives us something to hang onto as well!!

I see the Blunts have drawn MK Dons away from home in the next round!!!

Well... Never expected a win. Gave up at 1-0 and went to drink beer outside on the riverbank with my neighbour. I really hope that does not wipe out confidence. That 2nd half showed the gulf between the Championship and top 6 of the Prem. We gave up.. lost our interest but at least came out with no apparant injuries. It is down to SG to pick them up. Draw on Saturday would do me. Put that one behind us but also shows what could happen if we got promoted too quickly.

To be fair I am not sure they gave up after the goals started flying in!! Remember we went down to 10 men for the last half an hour and still tried to play some decent football, we just didn't have the ability to achieve anything at that point!!

As regards getting promoted too early, what this shows is that when you do get promoted you have to be prepared to spend the forthcoming TV etc money straight away to be able to maybe survive!! Gone are the days of saying well done to the team that got you there by offering them pay rises and new contracts, now its a case of thank you and here's your P45 for a lot of them!!!

That was well fukcing scary. Who'd even in their worst nightmares considered 7? I know I didn't. It does really bring home the difference between the journeymen Championship teams and the (very) Big Boys doesn't it? If they want to turn it on teams like ours will always get blown away. And the sending off was fatal, however unlucky it may have been there was no chance from then on.
As SCO and others have said, SG has a job on to lift them for Cardiff; I haven't seen heads go down so quickly as they seemed to tonight.
However I think SG will lift them and I still think we will triumph once again in Cardiff.

I'm back, thought you could lose me by xxxx off to another site.Really though been working every Saturday and will be doing so for the forseeable future and Tuesday evenings as well and Wednesday evenings and Thursday and Monday and my day off this week(Friday) .It's a bastard and after the day I ve had there today I just feel like telling them to xxxx it.Tonights result aint xxxx cheered me up either, just hope it aint knocked xxxx out the lads for Saturday.
No shame in losing to the Premiership champions who have spent millions on players but 7-0 is taking the piss,Lampard.
My mate got into snail racing, I was watching him train them the other night, so I asked if removing the shell would make it go any faster?
He said no mate it just makes them sluggish........
