Blimey... I'm not necessarily a fan of Dowling but this is real bad news unless there is someone lined up to replace him immediately - about as likely as Tasmania winning the Euros.
As Josh says this'll delay any HC appointment by several weeks with the knock on effect of any transfer business being even further away.
Jeeeeeez, we are fast becoming a real joke; you really couldn't make it up could you?

Interesting that the latest statement from Ken included "provides us with an opportunity to reassess how our football operation functions". Perhaps they are going to go away from the Technical Director model and give the manager more say. This may be more attractive to some managers. Perhaps that was the reason for Wilder not happening rather that Lai interfering as rumoured!

RE: New manager - Baggievicar - 14-06-2021

They'd pretty do some pretty quick reassessing. We don't exactly have months to spare before decisions have to be made.

RE: New manager - Salopbaggie - 15-06-2021

Regarding Dowling it feels to me the manger saga was the proverbial back breaking straw, you have managed to pull off a deal with the backing of the board for the person you think is number one candidate, then up pops Lai and veto's it. I dare say in the job of footballing director, your word has to mean something or you would never get a deal done and if Lai has taken that away from him, he had to walk really to gain some self-respect back in the football world, perhaps??.

RE: New manager - Stairs - 15-06-2021

Soaking has brought in a few quality players but has balanced that with some shockers. Overall, I’d say he was average and so I am not overly concerned that he has gone - other than the timing of it!

I doubt we have plans in place and so a few more weeks of uncertainty remains.

We never have been good at this let alone this period of Chinese Rule.

Where are the buyers who were waiting in the wings for the season to end…. Why always us.

RE: New manager - BaggieSteve - 15-06-2021

As Stairs points out, Dowling’s record on signings is very mixed (I include Pardew in that Angry ) but the timing is shocking. As Josh pointed out, this will set back the appointment of a new manager…or, worryingly, it will accelerate it by appointing whoever is available right now, regardless of ability or experience (sadly I think we are approaching that point regardless of Dowling leaving ). We have become a case study on how to take a solid, unspectacular, established club and trash it.

RE: New manager - WBA-Josh - 15-06-2021

The only way I see the club appointing a new Head Coach before Dowling's replacement is if the club is going to go back to the old school model of manager controlling everything football related. I hope that doesn't happen because there's a reason why English football has moved away from that method and it means taking what Dan Ashworth stated over a decade ago and binning it, which wouldn't sit right with me.

If the current model is to stay then Dowling's replacement has to be found first. There is no point appointing a new Head Coach and then finding a new DoF because the DoF should be the one to choose who they want working with them.

Knowing the Albion they'll probably appoint Alex Neil, then bring in Dowling's replacement and then Neil will be gone by Xmas. Doh

RE: New manager - wba13 - 15-06-2021

Dowling not well liked after his departure, Pereira, Kipre and Kanu all liked his departure on Instagram also the academy stall who went to villa also liked his departure. Lai and the boardroom fell out over his dealing of the manager hunt saying he only had 2names he was interested in Wilder who was vetoed by Lai because of the way he left Sheffield Utd and Wagner who used us.so they had a big falling out. Now I really believe it’s for the best as Dowling fell out with Bilic months before his departure and after stopping the youth players using the first facilities was not liked by a lot of senior players.
