RE: 2016/17 (Jan 07) WBA January Transfer Window - HRK - 09-01-2017 (09-01-2017, 23:20)drewks Wrote: Good post HRK, and IMO pretty much spot on - I think we need to be realistic in terms of the players that we could attract and sign. Ta Drewks I hope Pulis and Williams' New Years Message rings true - but I can't help but be a little skeptical about the statement about bringing in only immediate first team selections ( http://www.wba.co.uk/news/article/2016-17/albion-chairman-john-williams-new-year-message-3491480.aspx ) On the whole this season I think our transfers so far have been good, despite most thinking we'd had a crap summer window. I don't think anyone was expecting Nyom to be as good as he's been, Chadli although quiet recently had a great start and was a real coup for us, not bad for a Spurs castoff. Also top of the list of course is Matty Phillips. I bet he's now worth more than the £5.5m we paid QPR for him, not that we'd want to sell him! I'd be reasonably happy seeing the likes of Schlupp, McCarthy & Cleverley signed this window. I can't see us bringing in another big name until the Summer window, but I'd love to be wrong. RE: 2016/17 (Jan 07) WBA January Transfer Window - BaggieSteve - 10-01-2017 (09-01-2017, 23:11)HRK Wrote: I think Cleverley would be an upgrade on Gardner, who is looking more and more like he'll be leaving on a loan to permanent type deal. Covers numerous positions across midfield and is still prominent at Everton despite being labelled a cast off. In the starting 11 or on the bench for all but 2 of their games this season. HRK, I completely agree with you that Cleverley is a definite upgrade on Gardner. My problem is that I don't think we should be looking for a replacement for Gardner but for Fletcher. Right now, Gardner is not close to a starting XI position and I think we need someone who will go straight into the first team and make a substantial impact. I just think that we could do better than Cleverley RE: 2016/17 (Jan 07) WBA January Transfer Window - BBB - 10-01-2017 No one predicting on 'Have a guess' - after all that is what you are doing here. Have a go. Need replacements for Fletcher - Olson - Left back - and 1 new striker/cover for Morrison.
