Tele-Addict - talkSAFT - 11-05-2020 Never thought I'd end up like this, but I've started wearing a big dent in 'my' chair, facing the TV. (I used to sneer at anyone down the Pub who mentioned TV programmes!) The dent is getting deeper, and the beer stains smellier, as old age creeps in, and the Pubs stay closed. My missus is much the same, and the telly's on from 8am till 11pm, except when we go out together (for exercise, walking the dogs). We're not necessarily watching it, but it's on! I still refuse to watch Soaps or 'Reality' programmes, and won't subscribe to Sky, but sort of half-watch the old films while I'm either reading or painting (sort of facing the TV!) Apart from the old films, Big Bang Theory is my favourite (they made about 250, and I think I've seen them all). Current favourites are:- 'Harry Quebert Affair' (on Pick) and 'Normal People' (BBC1) Sad, eh? But what are your favourites??? RE: Tele-Addict - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 11-05-2020 Of the stuff currently being shown, I've grown curiously addicted to the late Bob Ross's painting show on BBC4 at 7pm from Monday to Thursday; the bloke never seems to paint anything except mountains, but it's oddly soothing to watch with the evening sunlight streaming through the window! Also, although the second series has just finished, Race Across The World is huge fun - reality TV done properly, interesting and informative. Would I Lie To You is another favourite in my house, though we'll be waiting a long time for a new series. In fact, at some point soon the TV channels are going to start running out of new material altogether. Hope they've got some big archives to dip into. RE: Tele-Addict - themaclad - 11-05-2020 Talking pictures on 328 Sky lots of old films were you can spot a 20 years old Petula Clark in RE: Tele-Addict - talkSAFT - 11-05-2020 (11-05-2020, 11:15)Ska\dForLife-WBA Wrote: Of the stuff currently being shown, I've grown curiously addicted to the late Bob Ross's painting show on BBC4 at 7pm from Monday to Thursday; the bloke never seems to paint anything except mountains, but it's oddly soothing to watch with the evening sunlight streaming through the window! (Don't tell me you've got another great talent, Ska'd!) "Would I Lie...." is as funny as anything, and so's our Frank's "Room 101", but I've seen 'em all now!! RE: Tele-Addict - drewks - 11-05-2020 Got to agree - "Would I Lie...." is one of the best. Even if you've seen it half a dozen times before you still laugh!! Also Race around the World - strangely compelling, even when I grow a real dislike for the odd character! How about the SAS Recruitment type programme? Again, as above..... but the attitude of the 'trainers" (..... STAFF! ") is spot on, especially with the celebrities who I generally enjoy being taken down a peg or 6! I think that's why I enjoy Bob Ross so much - he really does make it look absurdly simple. "There are no mistakes, only happy accidents!" Mate, look at my pencil sketch of a banana and tell me how happy an accident it is. RE: Tele-Addict - WBA-Josh - 11-05-2020 I've been back living with my Dad during all of this so we've been getting through my Mum's passing by watching shows on Netflix and Amazon Prime and my Dad also likes watching Big Bang Theory with dinner. We recently finished seasons 1, 2, 3 and 4 of The Last Kingdom (about Alfred The Great and the Kingdom of Wessex's battles against the Danish Vikings) and we are now watching The Hunters on Prime (about Jewish Nazism hunters) and then after that we have season 5 of Better Call Saul. We are also fond of watching Travel Man on 4od with Richard Ayoade and Brooklyn Nine Nine on E4. RE: Tele-Addict - Beefy 1965 - 11-05-2020 Must admit gangs of London was awesome ![]() RE: Tele-Addict - bomberbrown1968 - 11-05-2020 Sunderland till I die is a must for footy fans. Great behind the scenes of a big club slowly unravelling, throwing money at it, unhappy players and palyers like Jack Rodwell "stealing a living" at their expense RE: Tele-Addict - silverbaggie - 11-05-2020 Ashamed tp admit it but spend each lunchtime on You Tube. Used to like watching aircraft land or take off from the pilots cabin view. But now it's cabin views of train journeys. Even crossed the Firth of Forth Bridge on one of them. I find them hypnotic and sometimes it's hard to stay awake. I know I know sad old geezer. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
