WBA vs Middlesbrough & Barnsley - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 18-10-2019 It's been a leisurely couple of weeks sitting on top of the league, but this weekend we resume the defence of our precarious perch with a trip up to Teesside to face Boro, who proved a real thorn in Albion's side last season. Of course, that was with Pulis at the helm; under Jonathan Woodgate, the Smoggies haven't fared half so well this year, and could even find themselves in the bottom three after this one if results go against them. But their record against us at home is pretty solid; apart from back-to-back triumphs at the Riverside in September 2008 and 2009 (the latter the famous 5-0 drubbing that sent Boro into a tailspin they've arguably never recovered from), we've really struggled historically on Teesside, recording our last-ever win at the old Ayresome Park way back in 1952, and falling short in the two visits we've made so far this decade. It's been easier going at home to Barnsley, which is Tuesday night's fixture; the first meeting of the sides since the 1-1 draw that concluded the Di Matteo promotion campaign in May 2010. The last time the Tykes took three points from the Hawthorns, the new millennium was only three days old, and it's been a very rough ride for them since, with our 7-0 demolition job in 2007 being the obvious highlight. They were much fiercer opposition - or rather, Albion were more abject competitors - through the late Eighties and much of the Nineties, but now sitting one from bottom and coming off a 5-1 hammering at Preston before the break, they'll need something special to hark back to those happy days. Two banana skins, or six easy points to shore up top spot? Only one way to find out. RE: WBA vs Middlesbrough & Barnsley - BaggieMan - 18-10-2019 If we can keep a tight defence particularly if Hegazi is back, I think we could achieve six points and remain in top-spot. Boro will be hurting after their last loss and be dangerous. Matheus Pereira and Grady Diangana will be the key opening their defence and Charlie Austin grabbing at least one. 0-2 Baggies. RE: WBA vs Middlesbrough & Barnsley - Onetruebaggie - 18-10-2019 Its good to be back! I think if somebody offered me a draw tomorrow and beat Barnsley, I'd take 4 points now! That said away from home, when we are attacked, we counter attack as well as anybody and shouldn't fear a poor Boro side, even on their own turf. Head says Albion win, gut says a score draw, Barnsley should be a mauling, 3/4/5-0 you pick the permutation! On a side note, cant wait for the England Aussies in the morning, full English and a pint will set it up nicely! COYB and COME ON ENGLAND RE: WBA vs Middlesbrough & Barnsley - BaggieMan - 18-10-2019 Swing low, sweet chariot.... Aussies will be up for it and we have to turn it on and give them another good whuppin’ ! ![]() RE: WBA vs Middlesbrough & Barnsley - Baggiebob(BBB) - 19-10-2019 (18-10-2019, 18:27)BaggieMan Wrote: Swing low, sweet chariot.... RE: WBA vs Middlesbrough & Barnsley - Stairs - 19-10-2019 Kanu!! The boys gets a lot of stick but he is always proud to wear the shirt and he puts a shift in. Really chuffed he has scored today. RE: WBA vs Middlesbrough & Barnsley - BaggieMan - 19-10-2019 Echo that Stairs. Disappointed Charlie didn’t pop one in today but hey, let’s defend well and keep a second clean sheet in succession. Perhaps bring Hegazi on to bolster defence for the last 10mins? RE: WBA vs Middlesbrough & Barnsley - Stairs - 19-10-2019 I might be very wrong but I have a gut feeling that Kanu’s goals are often worth 3pts. RE: WBA vs Middlesbrough & Barnsley - baggietrousers - 19-10-2019 Another win, and it was away, so happy. Haven't seen any of the game but it sounds like the home club were playing for the draw. I guess we'll have to expect that a lot as most teams will look at a point against us, home or away, as a good point. But as long as we can keep grinding it out we'll get our chances and i'm confident we'll put at least one away. RE: WBA vs Middlesbrough & Barnsley - Blue Baggie - 19-10-2019 A good solid 3 points, not many clubs take the points at Boro. They have the meanest defence in the league and it shows. Well done guys COYB |
