Cardiff City v Huddersfield Town - Amelia Chaffinch - 08-01-2019

Spillers Records is the oldest record shop in the world having opened in 1894. Pay it a visit at its location in The Hayes, Cardiff.

Vinyl is making a comeback. Can Town?

And we are still standing. Lets not forget we are still in it. BUT, talking about being still standing, don't go down expecting anything from the ref because, one thing's for sure, that won't be happening!  Angry

Cardiff City were formed 5 years after the record shop and originally called Riverside AFC. They became Cardiff City in 1908, the same year as we were founded, of course. They entered the Southern League in 1910 just as we were arriving in the EFL. They didn't make the EFL until 1920. They're the only non-English side to have won the FA Cup which they did in 1927.

Head to head

Piece of pish, then.

You heard 'em. Break down their defences, one by one.  Whistle
You know what that means, we've to get past our former loanee who went on to become a public willy waver, Sean Morrison.

Neil Warnock managed both. Ronnie Jepson and Kevin Blackwell played for us and are now part of Warnock's Cardiff management team.

As far as goal threats go, their top three are Callum Paterson on 4, Victor Camarasa on 3 and Josh Murphy on 3. Both Camarasa and Murphy were subbed in their last match v Spurs around or not long after half-time.

Regarding form, they have just been beaten by lower league opposition in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, going out to the Gills 1-0. Something we know all about.  Doh
The last 6 league results are L, W, D, L (a heavy one v Man Utd), L, W.

The less said about ours, the better.  Cry

Time for another rallying song?

And we will win again!!!

As usual, if any of you have any good advice for getting there, places to eat, drink or stay, go for it!

There is this guide on the Cardiff City website.

Win or lose (please don't lose!), you can always find yourself a nightclub, get pished and sing I Will Survive whilst dancing round your handbags.

Talking about vinyl, what do you reckon; better than this newfangled digital stuff?
Do you still have LPs?
What's your favourite?
What's your favourite album cover?

Never owned a vinyl record or player. I'm one of these people born into the cd and digital era. Although my car annoyingly has a cassette player

Now that takes me back!

No idea how to work this download stuff. I prefer CDs to vinyl.

Do you still have LPs?
Nah, got shut yonks ago. Annoying to see them now on sale in shops at around £20.

What's your favourite?

Stumbled across another gem from AmChaff while perusing the site  Thumb up  Thumb up , wasn't sure who was doing the thread this week tbh. Glad it's not me atm, I'll volunteer for some more soon.

OK one at a time while I take a little wine.

Talking about vinyl, what do you reckon; better than this newfangled digital stuff?
I've one or two albums across 3 platforms (if that's the right word), really old farts stuff (vinyl), old farts stuff (cassette tapes - wot about those AmChaff?) and 1st Gen Digital Stuff (CD's). What sounds the best? Well, with the help of the right cables I can play all of them through my loverly 90's Pioneer A-400 amp powered hifi (showing my age here), which is now on it's 3rd set of speakers, having blown the other 2 sets up when I cranked the volume a bit  Whistle . The vinyl version of Rumours sounds really warm with the new set of speakers compared to CD and Tape - so for me it's the best (from my armchair), but the CD means I don't have to get up and flip the disc. The tapes can wow a bit even on a decent player.
All the mp3's (or whatever other version I've made) I have have been ripped from my CD's and parked on those little finger nail sized MicroSD thingies that I can stick in my little pocket DAB radio so I can listen to them on the rattler when you can't get a radio signal and also when flying over the pond. I only usually listen to these through the portable DAB and the ear plugs are crap but at least it cuts out the sound of other clubs supporters making a racket on the way home after they've won. Only once downloaded an album after buying it first as CD and it was an option available from Amazon I think so I didn't have to rip that one.  I've also used iTunes to take snippets from some of my fave tracks to make ringtones. I'm sure they love it at work when my phone bursts into a Stones or Springsteen (amongst many others) track.  Tongue

Do you still have LPs? Think I just covered that - about 100 on each platform, not all the same obviously.

What's your favourite? Vinyl? Depends on my mood. Dark Side of the Moon - very popular in China right now, apparently - Genesis, albums by others above or some old comedy recordings.

What's your favourite album cover? The artwork on The Beatles 'White Album' takes some beating for the shear simplicity and the noble way it disguises the fact that the album contains a mix of a few of the best and also by far the most dire collection of other tracks they ever recorded. I quite like Elton Bogg's Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboys album cover, closely followed by Mike Harding's Captain Paralytic and the Brown Ale Cowboys. Laugh Anyone's guess what Elton meant by brown dirt I suppose?  Smartass  Tongue
If I was to go back and pick albums just for the artwork then I'd probably be looking for a few old Yes albums. Where's that shop in Cardiff again?

The one I'd be after would be the album Rick Wakeman renamed Tales From Toby's Graphic Go-Kart. Laugh

T'game first.....great thread AmChaff Thumb up
Think we will struggle again in this game....I can see Cardiff scoring early and then we dominate....unable to find the net....and then near the end they get a second. You heard it here first.

Talking about vinyl, what do you reckon; better than this newfangled digital stuff?
Vinyl is the best format to listen on....if you use a decent set of separates....used to have a Rega Planar 3 with a Linn stylus...and an Arcam Alpha amp and some Tannoy speakers. Just a wonderful sound. Much warmer and not so clinical sounding. However the ease of use of CD's and digital music has made me turn to those formats.

Do you still have LPs?
Unfortunately not.

What's your favourite?
Back in the day it was the Queen Greatest Hits album, Clash's London Calling, and U2's Unforgettable Fire.

What's your favourite album cover?
London Calling by the Clash. Just a brilliant rock picture

Dw's isn't on you tube yet.

Tell a lie...

RE: Cardiff City v Huddersfield Town - ritchiebaby - 12-01-2019

Great thread, Amelia. Ditch the disco dross, though.

Vinyl all the way for me. Every crackle and hiss means almost as much as the song. And I can't forget the C90s that I recorded from the tranny. I'm in the process of transferring all of them to computer as my car only has a USB port - not even a CD player. It'll take years as I've hundreds (5 or 6) of vinyl albums, EPs and singles from my youth plus a hundred or so cassettes and CDs. My collection runs from the late 50s to the mid 90s.

My first album was The Shadows (thought-provoking title) by The Shadows and must be one of my favourites - partly because in t' good old days you got a full album of new tracks - not filled out by 3 or 4 hit singles. My true all-time favourite is probably Solo Concert by Billy Connolly (The Jobbie Wheecha and The Crucifixion are standout tracks). My usual favourite is the one I'm currently playing - Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits.

Favourite album cover is probably Nursery Cryme by Genesis.

Back to business, though, and we can't afford to come back from Wales pointless, or that's what the rest of the season will turn out to be, despite Herr Wagner's optimism.

RE: Cardiff City v Huddersfield Town - jjamez - 12-01-2019

dont have a good feeling about this one, these are the sort of games that we historically lose and today will be no different. They will be too physical for us and will bully us. We will try the long throw routines, but we know fully well that they do them better than we do.

just got to be brave and be bold today, hope that we can break the rut

RE: Cardiff City v Huddersfield Town - jjamez - 12-01-2019

well flo starts again...

kongolo on bench...

mbenza on bench and no diakhaby despite looking ok against bristol.

puncheon/pritchard on one wing with kachunga on the other... raw pace there, real threat. thats not being brave and bold, thats called getting it wrong again. hopefully i'm wrong, but it doesnt feel like it
