Salford City - Dancingwilldoit - 30-07-2018 Joked at the start of last season that we could be playing them this one. Funny how things turn out. Out of curiosity I had a look at the Salford website. They have spent a few bob on the ground and it looks nothing like it did when the TV cameras were there for their documentary. The ticket prices there are outstanding - Early Bird ST £100 (about £4.60 per game), Normal price £150, matchday pay at the gate £10 every game. Don't know how much money the boys of 92 are pumping in but it must be a small fortune. Is it just a plaything or are they looking to get a return on investment? Must admit I don't really fancy them to go up again even via the playoffs. Think Orient will beat them on Sat and I think Orient will be the ones to beat. Watched video highlights of Ebbsfleet v Wrexham from last season to see what we might be in for. Wrexham looked pretty good but Ebbsfleet were quick on the break and their No 9 looked v.good with some excellent 1 on 1's, don't know if he is still there. Think we might just get a point if our defence holds out, fingers crossed. RE: Salford City - Devongone - 30-07-2018 I reckon the Ebbsfleet No 9 would be Danny Kedwell who played with Gillingham and others. They've got Myles Weston who has got a bit of pace, Darren McQueen, reserve striker. They think themselves strong enough to have loaned out Danny Mills for the season and I'd be worried if we were playing against him. They've got a new young wide man in Ebou Adams and with Jack King, Andy Drury, Luke Coulson, Jack Powell and Jack Payne available to make the play in midfield that's an area in which I think we could struggle. Especially as they still have Corey Whitely who scores goals attacking from midfield and is a player I'd have liked us to go for. Ebbsfleet want to make a name for themselves and would love to start by beating us. They should be in and around the play-offs at worst. It's a very tough start. They've got goals in them, but their keeper doesn't convince me. I doubt Salford too. Sometimes a couple of star players aren't always that much help when the going gets tough .... and everybody but everybody is going to be out to stop Danny Lloyd and Adam Rooney. And yes I can see Macauley Bonne and Josh Koroma testing out Salford's resilience on Saturday. ORIENT: Brill, Ling (Ogie 90), Widdowson (Judd 73), Lawless, Elokobi (Happe 73), Coulson (Ekpiteta 73), McAnuff, Bonne (Mooney 71), Dayton (Brophy 45), Lee (Clay 45), Alabi (Sotiriou 79) - That was Orient's team against Southend that came back for a 2-2 draw. Looks a strong side to me! You wouldn't be calling them a relegation team in Division Two would you? RE: Salford City - bluepooch - 30-07-2018 Aren't Salford backed mainly by a Indonesian businessman or something like that ?.I think the class of 92 only put in a small percentage . Not going to Matlock now after hearing the team MA intends to put out .Doesn't he realise how big a game this is for town fans ? . RE: Salford City - themaclad - 30-07-2018 Ground has changed completely from what it used to be, they had toilets between the two changing rooms and one memorable occasion had the joys of listening to the then Salford managers half time rant bit like one of Warnocks but with more Fs Feel sorry for their loyal original support personally think they have lost their club, colours have changed and now attracts glory hunters RE: Salford City - Devongone - 31-07-2018 Things change if you are going to succeed. It even happens in the Sunday League, but yes, is his name Peter Lim in the background with the multi-millions? Salford City is essentially a new club so much has changed. BUT it is very difficult to build a league team without changing the culture and entire nature of club. As for last night at Matlock, a crowd of over a thousand turned up to watch Chesterfield. They got our Juniors plus Joe Anyon with dropsy. Why did we arrange the Alfreton and Matlock friendlies if we were going to wrap our miniscule squad in cotton-wool? I'm all for our young players coming up against men BUT to benefit properly they need also to play WITH men - three or four first teamers would have made all the difference. As it was we showed disrespect to Matlock. The other interesting thing is Bob's didn't seem to recognise what a performance it was from our young team to win the Derbyshire Cup last season. Perhaps they will begin to realise now how much those youngsters achieved in the final against what was an Alfreton team selected to win the game. Our squad is a bit too small and still lacks goal-potential. Also even if we can't ditch Joe Anyon every friendly is proving we cannot afford to risk him in a league match - he is very rarely mistake-free. We need a young promising keeper who will take over from Jalal (even if that means Anyon trains and never plays - as he is a threat to our very survival). RE: Salford City - bluepooch - 31-07-2018 Anyon is not only mistake prone but the goals he concedes are very soft ,he looks like he cant be arsed to make the effort to save it . It was strange indeed to arrange two friendlies in 3 days containing basically the same set of fringe players and youngsters . I think MA commented how he didn't realise what an important occasion the Matlock friendly is to the fas and next year (yes he is talking about being here next year) he will play it on a Saturday with the first team involved. RE: Salford City - Dancingwilldoit - 31-07-2018 Isn't there another friendly tonight at Worksop or somewhere? If last night was the youngsters plus Anyon what will tonights team be? See your mate COG has signed for Oldham Blue. RE: Salford City - bluepooch - 31-07-2018 My mate ? you on a wind up Dancing ? he is crap. Hope his back is better .His legs have certainly gone .I feel for the Oldham fans but got nothing against the guy . I would be astonished if he was a success there. You going Salford away? RE: Salford City - Dancingwilldoit - 01-08-2018 I will be Matt. Its our closest away game so yes definitely. Usually manage 5 or 6 away games a season but the last 2 years have been so bad its just not been worth it. By a week on Saturday we could be sat with 9 points. I would be happy with 7 if we manage that then I might just do a few more away fixtures. Ebbsfleet, Salford, Halifax, Harrogate, Solihull, AFC Fylde are all on my hit list with maybe Gateshead. |
