Tommy Gone - Dancingwilldoit - 06-11-2017 So sad. The best for me. All the best with your retirement Tommy. RE: Tommy Gone - bluepooch - 06-11-2017 Yes he has been a real l stalwart over the years .Good luck to him on his journalism career I hope we can now invest in a really good quality keeper RE: Tommy Gone - Dancingwilldoit - 06-11-2017 Good to hear the club offered him a position (turned down) and have given him a testimonial - well done for once. RE: Tommy Gone - Devongone - 06-11-2017 He has been an excellent keeper. This, from playing at Bradford City in a game of no importance. I hope journalism goes better for him than our season will without him. Does this mean we can sign a keeper on emergency loan? It is an emergency. I'm just guessing the emergency keeper will be better than Anyon. Just read up, Anyon would have to get injured for us to get an emergency loan! I don't wish the poor guy any ill really, but I have to admit it did flit through my mind to wonder how much it would cost to put a contract out on him ........ we'd only need to put him out of the game for a couple of months until the January window. I wonder if clubs are allowed to push players out of the January window. Is it a high window? To be sensible though - the one thing EVERY goalkeeper wants is to be the hero and to save his team. Joe Anyon has wanted to prove himself, wanted to be loved, wanted to be picked - now he's needed. From this point on it is hero time. RE: Tommy Gone - Dancingwilldoit - 06-11-2017 Isnt there saying "From Hero to Zero" RE: Tommy Gone - spireitematt - 06-11-2017 The best keeper we've ever had. Pretty sad to hear this, he's pulled off some great saves over the years and kept us in games and helped us win games with him between the sticks. "Tommy Lee Tommy Lee Tommy Tommy Lee he's got long hair but we don’t care Tommy Tommy Lee" RE: Tommy Gone - Devongone - 06-11-2017 Now you really are proving your youth Matt - the best keeper we ever had? Tommy was good, but he doesn't make the top five. I think he gets in the top ten comfortably and he's certainly one of the most-loved. Dev this is a list of keepers I've seen at Chesterfield since I've watched them. Tommy Lee (obviously) Barry Roche (Ok keeper, done well for Morecambe) Carl Muggleton Michael Jordan Jamie Annerson (loanee) Dan Whatsize Trevor Carson (loanee) Mark Crossley Matt Malak Shane Redmond (Don't think he made a first team appearance but I do remember him playing at Matlock in a friendly) Greg Fleming (Remember he came off his line against Hartlepool to deal with a corner but a Hartlepool player somehow managed to head it over him and in from outside the box) Adam Smith Ole Soderberg (Still can't get over that match against Torquay in the FA Cup) Richard O'Donnell (Thought he was on a par with Tommy) Aaron Chapman (Saw him in a few pre-season friendlies, always thought it was odd we got rid of him and the fact he never started a league game) Myles Wright (Seen him play for Buxton, decent keeper) Joe Murphy (Came in because Tommy got injured in the playoff 1st leg, Beckford scored a hattrick past him in the 2nd leg) Alex Cairns (Saw him in pre-season games, odd that we never kept him or the fact he started a league game, now at Fleetwood) Ryan Fulton Lloyd Allinson (Did ok, now at FC United) Thorsten Stuckmann (Good Penalty stopper) Joe Anyon Dev obviously seeing as you are much older, wiser? you will have seen lots of keepers through the years. RE: Tommy Gone - bluepooch - 07-11-2017 A few in my lifetime to rival Tommy would be Mike Pollitt ,Billy Mercer and John Turner. RE: Tommy Gone - Dancingwilldoit - 07-11-2017 Don't forget Steve Ogrizovich. For me Tommy and Billy Mercer were the best but Tommy gets more brownie points for loyalty which is so rare these days. He had a few mistakes in him but was one of the best shot stoppers in the league. |
