WBA vs Watford - Match Thread - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 29-09-2017 ![]() "Right, who ordered a taxi to Northfield?" Garry Thompson and Clive Whitehead secure a win over Watford, 1st October 1983 After Monday night's sad pantomime, Albion look to get back to their feet this Saturday as Watford come to the Hawthorns. While the half-time entertainment of burning a giant effigy of Bobby Madley in the centre-circle will no doubt prove a singular diversion, it's the forty-five minutes either side that count, because the Baggies are now almost six weeks without a win, and the fixtures won't be getting any easier. I do fear that the reaction to Monday night's defeat may be the same as the one at Brighton, and we could well end up with a trademark Pulis "stop the rot" performance that puts the emphasis on a clean sheet and a point, as we got against West Ham. That, I think, would be a mistake. We've shown that we're capable of attacking and putting a team on the back foot, and above all else, we do need that overdue win from somewhere. It won't be an easy task - it never is - but this week we have to get those three points however we can. RE: WBA vs Watford - Match Thread - drewks - 29-09-2017 It was interesting this week to read about TP's "new ideas" about line ups and tactics that would "suit this group of players". Assuming it's GOT to mean a more attacking attitude - how could it be less? - let's hope it's unveiled this weekend. RE: WBA vs Watford - Match Thread - Sir Megson - 29-09-2017 I'd say with our new additions over the summer TP is still tinkering and finding what our best XI is. Looking back on our performance on Monday night I'd say Gibbs should now have cemented his place at left back, and playing two up top is definitely the way to go with this team. Although at times he gives me the impression he's stealing a living as a footballer... Rondon has rarely played in a front 2 and I think he and Rodriguez need a run of games together as they could well form a good partnership. That said, the realist in me expects TP will view this as must not lose instead of must win. And that approach for this season will not wash with supporters after our business in the summer window. Nicely put SirMeg! That's the key, surely, to TP's mind and attitude! Obviously any good team is successful on the back of having a good defence, but there's a balance to be made. Let's hope our Tone has started to recognise that https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/west-bromwich-albion/2017/09/29/west-brom-v-watford-preview---perfect-time-for-tony-pulis-to-reveal-his-masterplan/ RE: WBA vs Watford - Match Thread - Kennyg - 29-09-2017 Let's hope we put in a big performance! We have a full squad to choose from so we won't be short of attacking options - but will they be used? Let's hope so. Also let's hope the referee, Mr Michael Oliver has a good game! (I still remember him awarding dubious penalties to the opposition and sending our player off at Blackpool many years ago!) RE: WBA vs Watford - Match Thread - Beefy 1965 - 29-09-2017 Chadli and Burke still not match fit, Should both be ok after international week though ![]() RE: WBA vs Watford - Match Thread - Salopbaggie - 30-09-2017 That's getting better, though if he is playing a back 3 plus the wingbacks as he played the last couple of games, I think its time for Dawson to have a "refreshing" week on the bench with Nyom, who is in better form in the RB slot. Also can't wait to see a "firing on all cylinders" Chadli and Burke in there. This is good for now though, with the Nyom exception. RE: WBA vs Watford - Match Thread - WBA-Josh - 30-09-2017 It's looks like we're playing in a 4-4-2. Foster
Dawson - Hegazy - Evans - Gibbs Phillips - Krychowiak - Barry - Brunt Rodriguez - Rondon RE: WBA vs Watford - Match Thread - talkSAFT - 30-09-2017 Goooooal Great ball from The Pole, and well taken by my favourite Rondon! Goooooal Great ball from my favourite Rondon to set up the corner. This Pulis bloke's a genius. 5% possession and 2 goals. Shit 2-1. Poor defending. Bring on Livermore and Nyom. RE: WBA vs Watford - Match Thread - Salopbaggie - 30-09-2017 Definitely Nyom for Dawson, it should be 2-3 really and would be if it were down to Dawson, twice before their goal, between 30 and 35 minutes they put a cross field pass onto that side and Dawson was nowhere. I will not go into his involvement in their goal. Dawson is a good player but the last few weeks, his form has been poor to say the least, loose balls, wayward passing and very poor positioning. I do wonder if his confidence is gone or is doing it on purpose as he keeps being made to play on the right. I hope not, as that will back fire on him as he is not in the running for the central CB role. |
