Caldwell Out - spireitematt - 09-09-2017

After today he's got to go. I was going to go today but changed my mind at the last minute. I feel sorry for the poor sods who have gone to Newport and now Crewe.

Hopefully will be gone now by Monday. Just has to be the best thing that's happened since he came.

Sometimes there's nothing to say. Hope Pooch stayed home.

RE: Caldwell Out - bluepooch - 09-09-2017

There are really no excuses after that .I have always said give him time with his own players but we cannot accept 4-1 and 5-1 away defeats .
I slated similar results from Wilson and Im not a hypocrite, we have to see signs of improvement and Im afraid we are not seeing it.
I do believe the team is good enough to challenge I just think its down to lack of organisation and players being asked to do jobs that they arent up to.There is only one person to blame for that .
A decent manager would relish the opportunity to work with one of the bigger budgets in the division .

Is that it then Blue? Its taken some time but at last I think nearly every town fan now thinks the same. If he doesn't resign he should go tomorrow. Put the head of catering in charge for Tuesdays game he will do better than GC would ever do. The only concern I have now is who we will end up with.

Been reading everything you guys have been posting and got to say I would have sided with Pooch in giving him a chance. Haven't seen you play obviously but I tend to look for teams to give a proper chance to managers, but this surely has to be the end for Caldwell, a very poor result today on the back of other poor results and no real signs of it getting better.

He won't quit as he will want to be paid for his contract, maybe put him on gardening leave and keep paying him if the money isn't there to pay him off but its time for a change.

He's won 3 games in 27. His win ratio is 11.1%, the lowest a Chesterfield manager has ever had.

I think he's only on a 12 month contract.

RE: Caldwell Out - bluepooch - 10-09-2017

I do believe in giving managers a chance hence my patience with GC .I always said Wilson had a full year in charge so why should GC not get the same but unfortunately we cannot afford to give him much more time as it seems we are not improving at all and there is no pint in persisting with a manager who clearly is struggling to impose his ideas and in fact has not improved the team at all.
I admit I thought his philosophy was good and If someone had said to me at the start of the season we would be 2nd bottom 6 games in with just 4 points I would have laughed at them .
It has now made me wary of any manager coming in as the last 3 have all be failures .What makes a good manager and how do you spot one ? Im beginning to think more and more it is just pot luck .
Maybe Watford have the best idea .Don't employ a manager who has all team issues as his responsibility but employ different roles within the structure and just have a first team coach with limited responsibilities. That way when you sack him you don't sack all his entourage because the other people are not linked to him .All the responsibilities are separate within the structure .

RE: Caldwell Out - Dancingwilldoit - 10-09-2017

That's the thing Blue GC has brought in all his own backroom staff so now if he goes whoever comes in will have to work with them as we cant afford to get rid of them all.
Hasselbank would have been good but we've missed the boat now. We need somebody tough with a no nonsense attitude just to turn the ship around and we need them pdq. Ronnie Moore till the end of the season?
Unless we pay another club for somebody like Coleman or Keith Hill or a good assistant manager (Stuart Grey), it will have to be somebody out of work and the question then is why are they out of work?
