Yam Yam's v Town - Muddled England Thread Part 1 - theo_luddite - 24-04-2017 ![]() ![]() Wolves v Town
The Moulinex Stadium (They get mixed up a bit at times) Waterloo Rd. Wolverhampton WV1 4QR Wur um that then? Just Souwath of The Big Mosque or Just No'wath of the Ring Ro'wad between the Uni and the Asda ower kid. It's kinda big un yella. Aw roight? ![]() Y'am ull now yam thur when ya see thu Billy Wroight statue. 'ave um fixed it up proper yet after it got bost boy that pissed up towat yet ower kid? Some drunken numpty crashed his car into it in January and smashed all the plates off the plinth. Arrested for drunk driving amongst other things (have you seen how far off the road this is?). Not sure if the dozy bugger has been done for it yet. The original statue and the repairs were both sorted by crowd funding after the club decided it wasn't gonna bother. Good on 'em. ![]() Middle England teams eh? You only see 1 in months then like the bloody buses 5 of the buggers all turn up at once in the same month. We've had little joy out of the 3 games against the clubs straddling the M1/A38 on the east side of the rump end of the Pennines so here's to a grandstand finish with two trips to the clubs down here in my midden. As I've made you all aware previously (like you didn't know anyway) all the 4 clubs down here have been taken away (sorry, bought) by Chinese "Investors", all of whom think they will all be the next biggest thing in China after some some big long wall and some zoo's full of pandas. Well if they can see each other for the smog then maybe. So, as a Chinese investor with more brass than brains or knowledge of the English football scene than is good for you, how do you protect your investment? Well you could follow the West Brom model, take some sensible advice from the previous owner and go for continuity and help your side to the highest position they are likely to achieve in years, even if some fans are not the greatest fans of Pulis's methods, or you could go the other way. The Chinese take-away method as favoured by the new owners of The Yam Yams and The Brummies and The Vanilla. First of all take away the previous owners, well to be honest you didn't need to take them away, they all really couldn't get out of here fast enough, if any of them were actually here in the first place. Scouse builder Morgan, who once upon a time had his eyes on Liverpool, wasn't exactly the most popular bloke in town having bought the club for bugger all with a promise to invest, which to be fair he did. He barely turned up in the last 12 months he was here such was the dogs abuse he was allegedly getting. Every building job more or less at the club, stadium, training grounds, academy he invested in went to his building company allegedly, including the new north (Stan Cullis) stand which must be the only covered stand in the country where you get soaked when sat in the back of it when it rains. He also invested somewhat in the squad and a host of managers who took Wolves up to the Prima Donna League (stand up dour Yorkshire bloke Mr. Mick McCarthy) and down to League 1 (sit down Mr. Ståle Solbakken and Mr. Dean Saunders - yes him with the new areshole that Deano ripped for him on Talksport) before Kenny Jackett brought them back up. Alas poor Jenny couldn't stear them back to the Prem with the tight reins Morgan and Moxey put on his spending budget. He was given all of about 24 hours in charge once Mr. Xi took over. There's more than a few Wolves supporters who wished they hadn't moaned so much about dour Yorkshireman McCarthy's style of play and Wolves had stuck with him a bit longer, maybe even through the first relegation as he's now often seen as a safe if dull as ditch water pair of hands. So given a lack of continuity there what does Mr. Xi do? Well first of all he gets the local paper to call him Mr. Shi, because nobody in Wolverhampton can pronounce Xi properly, especially the Chinese community who own so, so, so many of the local take-aways. Maybe Monsieur Charles Asnovoice can help. OK you got the idea? Well you could also ask Adam Faith if you were really stuck ![]() What do you want if you don't want money What do you want if you don't want gold Say what you want and I'll give it you darling Wish you wanted my club baby ![]() Sorry Budgie. (Ask yer mum). Second, get yourself an advisor, well he probably signed one up when he was looking to take over the club to be honest. Now here's where the problems start. Advisors in Football are like sharks in a feeding frenzy when there's a sniff of some silly money being thrown around. You and me know these sharks as agents and they have one agenda and only one agnda. Line their own pockets. Strange that 'appy 'arry isn't an agent - oh 'ang on, that's Staturday's thread. Standard Modus Operandi. 1. Ditch the current manager for a foreign trophy manager who is known the world over for his playing ability. He's maybe learned his coaching/managerial trade with struggling European clubs that haven't won half a dozen games, let alone trophies, between them, but he can grow this club with his forward thinking methods. The current chap doesn't have the contacts to bring in better and preferably foreign players and doesn't have the dozen or so hangers on that this lad needs to make things happen either. Translation, current fella? He's not on my book's and he doesn't want to talk to me about signing players who are that could further improve my bank balance. So get rid, pay him off, put my lad in charge and bob's your uncle. (Meaning - I trouser more of your cash). If this sounds a bit like the farce we had when Barry Rubery sacked Jacko and brought Brucey in, well it's pretty close. 2. Having installed the trophy manager, here's a few players that will improve your team and help you quickly move on to the promised land of unbelievable riches, aka the Prima Donna League where I can help you (sorry me) to even greater riches. Translation. Spend another £10 million on this lad including wages, my fee is only £2 million. What can possibly go wrong bruv? So, the net result of all this investment is: Trophy manager Zenga sacked after 17 games as it all went pear shaped. For all that investment Wolves were sat with their arses closer to the trap door rather than the door to the Prima Donna League in October. Don't panic Mr. Xi, pay him off, as well as the first chap you sacked. Plan B is I've found an out of work British manager for you who has maybe a bit of a clue what he's doing and he knows some good foreign players too. (Translation - I've just signed him up onto my books, he's yours for a fee). Xi - "Does he know any of these actual foreign players you talked about?" He will Mr. Xi, he will. Enter Paul Lambert who took more than a few weeks to turn them around. Wolves despite spending many more millions than Town were sat with their backsides on the relegation trap door only a couple of months ago. An unbeaten run of 5 wins and a draw in March which pretty much secured their Championship status followed by a couple of defeats followed (Manager of the Month strikes again???) but they've won a few more since, including beating L666s on the 17th and helping their season to implode. The Skinny There was a time when Town couldn't buy a win against Wolves. They were after all our original Champions of Europe back in the day, but in more recent seasons we've had the upper hand, with only 2 defeats in the last 8 seasons we've played each other. Town should at least be optomisitic of completing another double coming into this one. Town haven't been ripping up trees this last few weeks, Wolves have tried a bit harder than us - then again, they didn't want another relegation. So the takeaway order for Tuesday night is either 5, 55, 53, 78 or 15, 52, 54, 55. Throw in some prawn crackers, egg fried rice, a few pancakes and some soy sauce and the job's a good'un. ![]() (If it helps, that's position, goals for, goals against, points - try it next Saturday night after you've been down the pub. Don't look at the menu just surprise yourself and the missus when you get home). Getting here (and back) - Nightmares ![]() The roads are a bit of of a bugger locally and nationally to be honest. First of all, the A449 just north of the ground has been subject to nightly closures for resurfacing for a couple of months now. I've no info to say they won't do it again Tuesday night as the local bus company is expecting diversions. The good news is they've done the bit heading into town, so no problems getting there. The bad news is they are doing it north bound and it's closed from 7:00 pm every evening. The stretch is from what is known locally as the Bushbury Island to what was the Goodyear Island (the next roundabout north by the new Gatehouse Pub). The suggested diversion if you are coming off the ring road will take you up the Cannock Road to M6 Junction 11. If you use parking closer to the ground or the Park and Ride Car park off the Bushbury Island (where the Island House Chippy/Restaurant and KFC are) you will be forced right at this island or back towards town. I suggest you take the left at the mini-roundabout up Bushbury Lane past the remains of Goodyear's (gone but not forgotten) and slight left at the next mini-roundabout onto Fordhouse Road. This should bring you to a set of lights at the junction of Three Tuns Lane. There's a short run of shops on your left and a pub called The Woodbine in front of you - easy for the smokers to remember. Turn left down Three Tuns Lane to the Stafford Road, A449, right at the roundabout and off you go. Expect it to be slow going whatever route you take. A bit further north they are also resurfacing the A449 both ways between Gailey Island (A5) and The Three Hammers double island at Coven just north of the M54. They have one lane closed either side of the dual carriageway. It's 40 mph through there and they've dropped speed limits all over the place on the way into and out of town. Any of you that typically park in the Railway Station Car Park note they've increased the size of it and moved the entrance. You now access it from either Sun Street (under the bridge by The Great Western) to Corn Hill or from Corn Hill using the A454 off the Ring Road at Horseley Fields. Do not attempt to get to the old entrance on Railway Drive. You will get stuck in a bus lane and your evening will cost you another £60 and you won't get in, the old entrance is now a block of concrete. In fact, stay out of the bus lanes on all the roads in and out of town. You'll get the same fine. Wolverhampton bus lane fines - a bit of a money spinner. Other than that, the never ending nightmare that is the M60/M62 with added bits by the M6 Junction is still in full 50 mph flow. The good news is that the new dual carriageway that bypasses the old A556 from the M56 to Junction 19 at Knutsford is now open. Your satnav will love you for driving down there as you float from field to field. The M6 nightmare from Knutsford now extends all the way down to Jct 16 at Stoke (A500) and don't be surprised if they shut bits of either the M6 or the M60/M62 on your way back, making your 2 hour journey last anything up to 4. There's also a short stretch just south of Keele Services where they seem to be fixing a bridge. They still appear to be messing around on the M1 around by the A38 or just north of it and the M1 just south of the M6 junction down to Milton Keynes(ish) is also being repaired (again). Probably stuff going on down by Junction 10 if you are heading north too, just because there always is. Oh and just in case I forget - there's fun and games everywhere from the Spaghetti Junction north to Walsall and don't forget the arsing around with the smart motorway speed limits everywhere just because thay can. Pubs and grubs - loads of places. Personal favourites, The Great Western on Sun Street, any of the pubs on the way down the A449 even way out of town. The Gatehouse grub is OK but if you like ale, you've really really got to like ale to like Greene King. I'm told the Fish and Chips at The Island House are top notch. It's a take-away and a full blown new restaurant now. I'm told away fans are welcome in the Hogshead and further in town in the George Wallace (was the Litten Tree). Also like The Dog and Doublet and The Lych Gate but you might not get in with colours on. The Moon Under Water ('Spoons pub up from the staion) is home fans only and you'll be asked to show a match ticket to get in. There's another new Hungry Horse pub called The Sunbeam at the top of Railway Drive by the bus station named after Wolverhamptons glorious transport related past. See the Gatehouse above, same brewery, same crap ale, food probably Ok, no idea what happens in there on match days. Liquids probably oK if you like cold fizzy stuff with no particular flavour, otherwise see my moniker at the bottom. More of this stuff in here - http://www.footballgroundguide.com/leagues/england/championship/molineux-wolverhampton-wanderers.html Who to look out for in the Wolves Squad. Well they have spent a bob or two this season. So for a start there's multimillion pound man Helder Costa. He's been injured recently, will have to check if he'll start but he's been scoring the bulk of the goals so probably worth the punt for Wolves for next season if someone like Villa or Newcastle doesn't come in with a really funny money offer. Dicko is back in the squad after a long injury lay-off. He was scoring for fun alongside a certain Benik Afobe who got his head turned by funny money on offer at Bornmuff and the lad himself got injured. Richard Steadman came back from his trip darn sarf to some side called Fulham (who are they?) and has steadied the defence a bit. Conor Coady, who we all know well after a season at ours before moving on, has been shifted to full back from midfield with some effect apparently. With more money likely to be lining his advisors pockets I'd expect a bit more investment from Mr. Xi in the summer and Wolves to be pushing for a play-off spot next term. Then again, you could say that about 3/4 of the clubs for next season in this division. It's is not going to get any easier and what Deano and Wagbo will have to do to keep us on our somewhat lofty perch is anyone's guess - assuming we don't blow the other sides out of the water in the play-offs. Under promise - over deliver. Hey look, just come down and have some fun. If you can't make it Tuesday, see you all on Saturday. The locals like a bit of banter but keep your eyes out for the odd numpty. We've all got a few sadly. Aw right? ![]() Quick edit to Charlie Apart from being on the usual Radio stuff, it's on 5 Live Sports Extra (likely the Radio WUM feed) and on Norway Dplay Norway, Eurosport Norway. Go for it Norway. Has to be better than that Eurovision crap show thingy unless you live in Brighton. Just in case you were wondering - the company behind Wolves is Fosun International. Apparently they posted profits of $1.2 billion last year. They own a few things you may have heard of, Cirque de Soleil and Thomas Cook amongst others. Wolves are such a small part of their holdings they didn't even rate a mention in their last accounts. ![]() Communism - what a way to go eh?k RE: Yam Yam's v Town - Muddled England Thread Part 1 - Lord Snooty - 24-04-2017 Nice one, theodolite. ![]() Just go out and win it Town. The longer we go without securing this play off spot, the more nervous we all get. I do not want to the last match against Cardiff needing summat. RE: Yam Yam's v Town - Muddled England Thread Part 1 - theo_luddite - 24-04-2017 Finally fixed that picture. RE: Yam Yam's v Town - Muddled England Thread Part 1 - Lord Snooty - 24-04-2017 Why are they called Yam Yams,Theo? RE: Yam Yam's v Town - Muddled England Thread Part 1 - SHEP_HTAFC - 25-04-2017 Great thread theo ![]() I'm nervous about tonight's game. I can see any of the 3 results tbh. We could go out and win this easily. Or we get humped. Or we play like we did v Derby and try for a bore draw. Let's just get over the line and then start looking towards who we play in the play offs. RE: Yam Yam's v Town - Muddled England Thread Part 1 - theo_luddite - 25-04-2017 (24-04-2017, 22:21)Lord Snooty Wrote: Why are they called Yam Yams,Theo? Ha ha, it's what the Brummies, the Baggies and what anyone else from the Black Country call Wolverhamton folk. Yam comes from you am, which really should be you are, and you'll often hear folk round here referring to someone they are talking to as 'yam a ..... something or other .. yam' or maybe something like 'yam saft yam' - hence Yam Yams. On the other side of the great M6/M5 divide they are more likely to say you'm rather than yam. Just a quirk of Muddled England dialect. ![]() RE: Yam Yam's v Town - Muddled England Thread Part 1 - jjamez - 25-04-2017 I hope the game isnt as boring as the accent, although if it meant sealing the playoff place I could deal with it. Was going to go but I'm going to pass on it, try and find it online RE: Yam Yam's v Town - Muddled England Thread Part 1 - Lord Snooty - 25-04-2017 Ow cheers theeow. That's fair bostin. ![]() RE: Yam Yam's v Town - Muddled England Thread Part 1 - theo_luddite - 25-04-2017 As Mike Harding once said, "they don't talk, they sing and if you ain't got the music you're buggered." Been down here donkeys years and my toes still curl up a bit when a good looking lass talks with a full on West Midlands accent. I'd have no chance chatting anyone up from Lower Gornall. Even the folk in Gornall don't understand the folk in Lower Gornall. Mind you, the scouse nasal whine really sets my teeth on edge, but maybe this should be for another thread. Back to the footy. RE: Yam Yam's v Town - Muddled England Thread Part 1 - Lord Snooty - 25-04-2017 One for Saturday's thread. Birmingham's Paul Robinson charged with violent conduct in the Villa game. That could mean he's banned against us. |
