Astle turns Cyril Knowles and John Collins as Albion face Spurs at the Hawthorns; 28th March 1970

With another boring, pointless and godawful thoroughly entertaining international break out of the way, it's time to return to the main event. August and September generally earned a verdict of "job done" from most Albion fans; a point or two more would have been welcome, but our position in the table is, for the time being, a decent one.

However, the coming games will be the real test for us, with some traditional big boys and a couple of form teams on the fixture list. First up are Spurs, who - in spite of their somewhat hilarious chokefest in the spring - have come out of the blocks strongly again this season, and remain unbeaten in the league. They're usually a thorn in our side at the Hawthorns anyway, but hot on the heels of Man City, they'll be eager to take all of the points on offer.

We may well play it safe, but my hope is that man-of-the-moment Nacer Chadli will continue his run of form and pop up at least once to haunt his old employers. Though we know from experience the danger of becoming draw specialists in this league, a point from this one would be a good return, and give us some crucial confidence for the rest of our tough autumn spell.

At least Jara's eyes, if nothing else, are on the ball in that photo!

Yes but Bales hand is on the balls ....... a reasonable points return thus far ...... however I fear our next run of fixtures will not give such a generous return, I fear a heavy defeat in this one. We give to much possession and to quality teams that is suicidal.

WBA v Spurs has always been a great game, and one of the highlights of the season (for our fans).
But only 2 comments to Ska'd's article shows the general apathy these past couple of years - which is worrying.
We used to be the best fans in the League, but I think that only applies when we're striving for promotion or battling relegation. This will probably be a "battling relegation" year, but I honestly don't think the fans will lift the team like they always have, unless the team show some blood, sweat, and tears.
(I know we're 9th, but our starting fixtures couldn't have been much kinder).

I'm down the studio between 3 and 5pm but alas I don't think even that hoodoo will work today. Spurs are on fire and we...well damp squib comes to mind we light the fuse then fizzle out a la sunderland... If that happened today I'd be very grateful. I think TP will park the.... er greyhound (american giant bus) and we will buckle eventually.
