Our position on Leko: Right or Wrong?? - Salopbaggie - 02-05-2016

Leko has been withdrawn from the England under 17 team for the European Under-17 Championships.

TP argues that he needs first team experience ahead of next season, and has said no.

Dan Ashworth is saying he is an important part of the England team and they have to submit teams by tomorrow (Tuesday)

Talks are supposed to still ongoing.

On one hand what a great experience of travelling with an international squad and playing against the up and coming stars of tomorrow, on the other two games of first team premiership football (maybe).

Personally I think I would ask the lad what he wanted to do, is his presence really going to make that much difference to our final two games? Yes two games experience will always be useful. However if his heart is set on playing for England, who knows what trains of thought refusing to let him go, might start and yes it is nice to give the F.A. the "V's" for once, but what do you think?

Gossip says TP wants to send Leko on loan next season, so I'm not sure what point there is in making him play (part of) the next couple of matches - it's not bedding him in for next year. That's if gossip is right, of course. I'd let him go with England.

IMO the key is if he IS going to start - or play a significant part - in our final games. If so then it's maybe excusable to keep him here, but my heart says that to play for your country at any level is an honour and he shouldn't be denied that - if he's going to play (again), that is.

Yup - heart's won.....we should let him go

Could it be the Club is still smarting over losing Dan Ashworth to the FA and, this is their way of exacting some revenge?

Personally, I think that the lad should be allowed to decide for himself, especially if the intention really is to put him out on loan next season. (Can we have him at Cheltenham please    ).

To say no and then keep the lad on the bench for the last three games can only risk alienating the FA (tough Laugh ), Dan Ashworth, who most of us would love to see back at the club and, most importantly, the youngster himself.

We've already had two disaffected players in recent times causing disharmony for our club. We really don't want a third petulant child deciding he wants out. Sick

He'll no doubt be out on loan somewhere next season so I'd say he'd benefit more from some international experience, on top of the appearances he's had already for us.

Tyler Roberts deserves a crack at some first team action as well imo.

Reflecting on Baggievicars comment about a loan, as reported by the Times.

Maybe that is why TP wants to keep him away from the Europeans. To give him a run for the remaining games and see if he is ready for the Premiership or needs to go on loan. If that is the reason, fair enough i suppose.

I have to agree with most of the above posts. If he is to be shipped out on loan next season, then the International tournament would be the option I would suggest he makes. It does seem like the Baggies are having a go at disrupting the FA's youth tournament! Can't think of any reason we should do that!!! Whistle

A fine balance is needed between protecting and allowing players to experience international football. The trouble we would have if he goes is that he will be away with youngsters from other prem clubs, they will chat they will compare notes, they will train and play with each other, heads could be turned, green eyed monsters may appear over wages, cars etc, they may make good friends, players may report back to their bosses.

Thorne went on loan head was turned ..... he demanded to leave ..... now at derby.

Saido played with and trained with Kane ..... spuds turned his head, unsettled him ..... he will be gone this summer.

These are the two most recent incidents .... Leko not yet signed new contract, was July mentioned .... could be another stolen away.

What's the answer ....... darned if I know that's why I am a monkey not an organ grinder.

Why has he got to go out on loan anyway? IMO he did well enough against West Ham to easily deserve starts in the next two games
