Match Thread - Charlton v SWFC - St Charles Owl - 05-11-2015 THE MATCH - SATURDAY 7TH NOVEMBER 2015 3PM KO ![]() ![]() Seems ages since we had an away game but it was only 15 days ago. Since then we have we have taken our unbeaten run to 11 games, 9 in the league and we have risen to 8th place, just a point off the playoff spots!! We now embark on 3 games against lower opposition, two of whom have (or will have) new managers when we play them so we need to be careful of that new manager bump that teams seem to get. The first of those will be away at Charlton. They are a mess as a club to put it mildly and after a good start to the season have dropped away badly seeing them not win in 11 league games going back to August, leaving them second bottom!! They haven't scored in their last 5 games and have conceded 11 in the same games, so their form is really dreadful. But they fired one unknown foreign manager and replaced him with another unknown foreign manager from the Belgium 3rd Division, so who knows what to expect from them!!!! Their fans are up in arms and I read somewhere they are expecting to see protests at the club against the owner this Saturday. Hopefully we can take complete advantage of the turmoil!! This will be the 55th meeting between us with our record being W20 D15 L19, so a fairly even record between us. Our record at their place is W7 D8 L12, so not too bad when you consider that we didn't win any of the first 7 visits to them up until 1970. We are unbeaten at The Valley in the last 4 games there, with one win and three draws, so our record is improving. Here is the video of our last meeting there: THE LAST MATCH As I saw mentioned a few times this was a game for the purists, with the defences being on better form than either set of strikers!! The draw kept both teams on good unbeaten runs and kept Brighton unbeaten this season but did see them lose top spot and drop to 3rd!! For us it was another draw against a team above us, but that is probably progress over previous seasons and it seemed that the 3 games in 8 days left the team looking tired. It also saw our home attendance rise once again, the fifth game on the trot where the attendance has increased!! I am sure this is as a result of us being on such a good run and fans coming back to watch winning football. I still think we are missing a couple of thousand fans who are staying away due to the ticket prices, or perception of what the prices actually are!!! I think the club have definitely listened to the fans and the 20 quid ticket price for Brighton was actually lower than the same fixture last season, but the bad PR from the original release of match day prices has taken its toll. Still, if we can keep winning and get into the playoff places I am sure we will continue to see our average attendance keep rising. FUNNY COMMENT FROM LAST MATCH THREAD From Maddix "You'll just have to put up with WW ![]() There still playing the last five minutes of the Forest game. I hope we can hang on ![]() Hopefully they are still playing the last 5 minutes of the Brighton game as no one heard them even on the three minute delay!!!! ![]() OUR TEAM I think for this section I should just write two words - squad rotation!!! We looked a bit off our feet in some areas in the last two games so I expect maybe a couple of changes again by CC. No idea what changes but will be in midfield or up front, I expect the defence to stay as is. Could McGugan, Lopez (if fit), Semedo or Helan come in for this one and will Hooper get his first game up front?? The following is my prediction for the opening line-up: Westwood Hunt Loovens Lees Pudil Lee Hutchinson McGugan Forestieri Helan Hooper WHO'S THE BASTARD IN THE BLACK Ref - GAVIN WARD Assts - Mark Russell and Neil Radford Fourth Official - Dean Treleaven MS will hopefully give us the skinny on this guy in previous Owls games!! This is one we should win. which means we won't. ![]() I'll go with a tight win. 2-1 Hooper DAAHA 177 As for WW. Since my yearly subscription ran out I've been paying for it monthly so it's up for re-newal this week. I don't think I'm going to bother. It honestly is worse this season ( With all these so called bullshit HD improvements) than it was last season. You could even switch between the DVR and live feed last season.. now your mandatory option is to be minutes behind? Not to mention it cuts out at last a few times per game! If the club isn't running WW then it needs to be, relying on a 3rd party source to provide the stream then charge users for it? beyond piss poor. So, on to the Meggo. Enjoy a nice 1990 Panini sticker ![]() ![]() RE: Match Thread - Charlton v SWFC - madsteve - 05-11-2015 234 3-1 Lee DDDHA This week's Bastard in the Black is Gavin Ward from London.
