WBA vs Swansea - Match Thread - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 11-08-2023 Two defeats in a little over three days constitutes a start to the season that's no less disheartening for being entirely predictable. A third on Saturday would make it our worst start to a campaign outside the Premier League since 2001-02, though as that one turned out to have a happy ending, there might just be a few straws left to clutch at. Certainly, with Swansea the visitors to the Hawthorns, it's difficult to find positives. They're ten games unbeaten in the league while we've lost four of the last five; they've beaten us in each of our last four encounters - coming from behind to win both of last season's 3-2 - and a victory for them this weekend would make it a hat-trick of consecutive wins on our turf for the first time in their history. Worse, nothing we showed against Blackburn or Stoke suggested hidden depths to the squad or the promise of a side waiting to click. If we replicate the last couple of performances, the best to hope for on Saturday is that we become this week's Shite Team Who Wreck Everyone's Acca By Bundling A Jammy Goal Past The Form Side. Or maybe that's doing Corberan a disservice? The man who worked instant wonders last year can't be blind to the problems. But first things first, we need to shore up at the back if there's to be any change of fortune, and with that in mind, 0-0 in this one would be a small mercy to get us off the mark. RE: WBA vs Swansea - Match Thread - Baggiebob(BBB) - 11-08-2023 NICE WRITE UP SK'D - WELL DONE FOR THE EFFORT ![]() RE: WBA vs Swansea - Match Thread - Stairs - 12-08-2023 I’m at the Eng v Wales match at Twickenham and so will be in a pub trying to avoid the scores. Hopefully this lack of focus will result in a positive outcome. Doesn't sound like a happy last 30 minutes, but very glad of the points. RE: WBA vs Swansea - Match Thread - Ska'dForLife-WBA - 12-08-2023 First and foremost, the win's the important thing; as I said in the OP, I'd have taken 0-0, so it's job done on that front. But as we know, the defence is only ever a strong gust of wind away from crumbling, and Corb's first couple of subs (Chalobah for Yokuslu and Mowett for Phillips) invited Swansea pressure and resulted in the fightback. Maja and Sarmiento were a good introduction though, helped us hang on for the points. Wouldn't be an Albion-Swansea match these days if it didn't end 3-2, I suppose! RE: WBA vs Swansea - Match Thread - Salopbaggie - 12-08-2023 Sorry to say we did not win that game, the Swans gave it to us, gift wrapped with a bow on top RE: WBA vs Swansea - Match Thread - Dingle-Dingle - 12-08-2023 Palmer booked AGAIN. He needs talking to. DD#No1 ![]() ![]() |
