Is it worth keeping going? - Devongone - 03-06-2023 There are four of us. The number never grows. Sports Babble itself doesn't grow, or change. The club is stuck on re-wind repeat. Much as I've enjoyed doing this, and there are some lovely people on this site, is there really any point? I'm old. I'm increasingly sure that I'll never see Chesterfield back in the EFL. Shall we stop? I don't want to join the idiocy of Bob's Board either - that's certainly not my intent. RE: Is it worth keeping going? - Dancingwilldoit - 04-06-2023 Good question Dev. My comments will certainly be less frequent as we are moving to Spain permanently later this year. I've had enough of the country I was born in and the clowns running it. The extreme right are taking over the asylum. Will still follow town and will keep up with our season tickets for when we do come back for a break or you never know maybe I'll lose my head and move back again. Like you say debate has been a bit thin on the ground of late but at least you can have one on here without being insulted or shouted down. It's just a shame we couldn't get more sensible people involved. RE: Is it worth keeping going? - Devongone - 05-06-2023 That's very true Dancing. On Babble you are at least free to babble. And I have! It's depressing to think you feel the need to leave this country, but it is good to think of you being happy somewhere you obviously love. This country and the dogs are growing ever closer. I think my going on about on how I was sure Fitzsimmons would let us down, and then he did it to such devastating effect, finally knocked my duck off. You'd think you'd feel smug about being proved right ........ but it just made it ten times the blow. I feel as though I hardly want to come up with any more opinions. Being proved wrong turns out to be far more acceptable. And at least I'm good at being wrong. I'd like to hear other voices on here. Bob's is the equivalent of a smart-arse fascist state, though that is entirely accidental. Surely there are other refugees from Bob's, but we have no way of finding them and Babble doesn't have a growth strategy of its own. You must be excited about the prospect of permanent Spain. RE: Is it worth keeping going? - themaclad - 05-06-2023 Of course it is there's only me on mine am I bothered? nope RE: Is it worth keeping going? - Devongone - 05-06-2023 (05-06-2023, 12:24)themaclad Wrote: Of course it is there's only me on mine am I bothered? nope But yours is a voice always worth listening to, even when I happen to disagree, don't you feel as though you are worth much more than an echo? There must be other PNE fans who would like to chirp up in this atmosphere ....... if they knew it existed and got the chance to read some of your posts. You are a huge bonus to this site, but if notmaclad joined too that might be twice as good. RE: Is it worth keeping going? - themaclad - 05-06-2023 Doesn't worry me being the soul poster have put threads on Twitter get a few more hits but that's about it, you get a few guests on this site and a whole host of new members who never post, troube is all clubs have other forums we've got pneonline which at the best of times resembles Eastern Ukraine Trouble with some forums is posters tend to take over and they are always right and everybody else is wrong. It is what it is, I work on the Wayne's World theory if you post they will come RE: Is it worth keeping going? - Devongone - 05-06-2023 I think we need the site to put itself on Twitter or somewhere. Purely club forums to tend to be island's of correct thinking. And correct thinking is defined by a very few loud and intolerant voices. That's where and why Babble should be even more valuable than it is. RE: Is it worth keeping going? - Dancingwilldoit - 05-06-2023 The problem is if you're not careful you will attract the argumentative 5 or so % and that then upsets the norm. It's a difficult decision but at least you can say your piece on here and not feel ridiculed for it. I think a lot more read the board than post on it. I have a Twitter account but would think long and hard before posting anything about Babble with some of the absolute morons who seem to live on there. RE: Is it worth keeping going? - Devongone - 06-06-2023 I imagine that is excellent advice regarding Twitter. But if the only way to avoid idiots is to aim for an absence of people then we are pretty much stuck with very small and exclusive ... RE: Is it worth keeping going? - spireitematt - 20-06-2023 I did try many years ago to spread the word about sportsbabble on twitter but don't think anything came of it. Lot's of people read Bob's Board including myself but at times it can feel like an echo chamber and can sometimes become quite toxic especially if we are on a losing run. Majority of fans will use twitter to express their opinions or views but that can be quite difficult with only 280 characters. I haven't been on here since the season finished because there is nothing to really talk about as we've only made 1 signing and pre-season doesn't start for another 2 weeks. I know I didn't post much last season on here but this season I'll try and be more active. I have actually wondered whether to carry on with the prediction league. Is it something which has ran it's course? Do we need something new? As for Dancing moving to Spain, I hope you enjoy it and have a good time. I agree with Dev that I think it's depressing that you feel you need to leave the country but as long as you're happy that's all that matters. I'm not particular happy with politics at the moment, I think we are currently run by incompetent careerists who seem to be more worried about there own jobs/careers and getting re-elected than the vision and future of the country, the same can be said for all political parties at the moment. As someone who is Centre-left, Labour doesn't fill me with much confidence with there continued flip-flopping on policies and there vision or lack of for the country. |
