Home Nations (+Eire) roundup - El Car - 07-09-2014 Late drama as Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland both scored in the final minutes to win away from home in UEFA 2016 qualifiers. Former Rangers dickhead Kyle Lafferty claimed an 88th minute winner against Hungary, while former Celtic dickhead Aiden McGeady grabbed a 90th minute goal to take the points against Georgia. Both matches finished 2-1. For Northern Ireland in particular it gives a huge boost to their qualification hopes. The Republic have also set the standard early on and have shown what Scotland - with whom they share a group - will need to reproduce at the minimum to reach the finals. RE: Home Nations (+Eire) roundup - Lord Snooty - 07-09-2014 Great win for Norn Iron. Unfortunately they have an easy looking home tie with the Farleigh Islands next. I say unfortunately. Last time they had a good result, a win against Russia, they did something stupid like lose to Luxembourg. I can see a similar result there. Hope I'm wrong. RE: Home Nations (+Eire) roundup - El Car - 07-09-2014 A 2-1 loss in Germany for Scotland. The statistics showed that we could have been pumped by half time, but we pushed them all the way in the second and were level at 1-1 for all of 4 minutes. As always we were unlucky to be undone by our own hand with a bit of woeful goalkeeping for their first goal and even more woeful defending from a corner for their second. Still, a spirited performance with plemnty of positives, and Ikechi Anya might have earned himself a winter transfer with that performance. RE: Home Nations (+Eire) roundup - Trusevich - 08-09-2014 Thought we were unlucky but weren't quite good enough to get anything from the game. Typical 'shoot yourself in the foot' defending does us in yet again. Defeat from the jaws of victory, as they say. Referee getting a lot of stick, and rightly so. Foul on Naismith edge of box definitely prevented a goalscoring opportunity, yet only a yellow for Durm, and Muller's two-hands-around-the-neck professional foul on Maloney that again, bafflingly, only produced a yellow. Serious injury for Reus and no stoppage time allotted for it by the ref?? Baffling. Again. Yep, the ref made some 'odd' decisions in favour of the Hun ![]() RE: Home Nations (+Eire) roundup - WakeyTerrier - 09-09-2014 ![]() Andorra 1-0 Wales after 7mins 44 defeats on the trot ![]() 1-1 22mins.....who else but G Bale RE: Home Nations (+Eire) roundup - El Car - 09-09-2014 Andorra might tire towards the end but still 1-1 with 20 minutes left. This is an incredibly qualify-from-able group for Wales but dropping points here could prove disasterous later. Bale scores again on 81 minutes to give Wales a 2-1 win. 3 points in the bag but not exactly a promising performance (Wales had only registered 3 shots on target with around 15 minutes left). RE: Home Nations (+Eire) roundup - WakeyTerrier - 09-09-2014 Haha, well done to Wales...a win is all you can ask for and a harmless pitch invasion. Great result elsewhere that Cyprus who are the supposed to be the whipping boys beat Bosnia away RE: Home Nations (+Eire) roundup - El Car - 11-10-2014 A bit quiet on the international board this time round innit? A quick recap of results: England cruised to the expected comfortable win at home to San Marino, the match finishing 5-0 to the hosts. Wales were held at home in a scoreless draw against Bosnia & Herzigovina. With any luck that'll help stuff Gareth 'cheating bastard' Bale's chances of qualification. And today's fixtures: Northern Ireland and Eire, like England, are at home to the 'whipping boys' of their groups - Faroe Island and Gibraltar respectively. Gibraltar are still a fairly unknown quantity as this is their first time in qualifying, while the Faroes have taken plenty of surprise points in the past, so both matches are potential banana skins. For Scotland every match is a banana skin, and after our unlucky defeat in Germany expectations have been raised for our game at home to Georgia. However, we've struggled against this opposition in the past, though mainly in the away games, and they'll be tough opposition. I expect to see 2 or 3 goals scored but they could go either way basically.
