The quest for a new Hibs manager begins in earnest! - 0762 - 20-04-2022

This is something that nobody associated with HFC really wanted to see happening for a long time, but it is what it is. SDG currently in interim charge of the 1st team ops and I'm sure he'll try to do a decent job under difficult circumstances with Eddie May alongside him. Eddie's wife, Gayle, a staunch Hibee, will be cheering him on to "do the biz" with SDG! Thumb up
More importantly, who will be the likely target(s) for Hibs? A lotta names being bandied about already - Derek McInnes, Kevin Thomson, Calum Davidson. I must say these names don't particularly impress me. As said in a previous thread, Malky Mackay is an interesting possibility mainly because he has worked wonders with limited resources at Ross County. However, was he just jammy in finding a couple of strikers who made it happen for them in this particular season? Also there is a lotta "loose baggage" attached to him from his days with Cardiff City. Then, of course, Neil Lennon's name crops up again. We know what to expect from Neil if he returned to ER Stadium, but he'd demand some kinda financial commitment to support the team revamp in the summer. And he also has some "loose baggage" attached to him. It's a "hard call", esp when trying to read how Hibs board and Ron Gordon perceive this appointment. One thing is certain - it's imperative that they make a good judgement call this time around. Choose wisely please!!!

Personally i liked when Big Eck and Lennon were in charge..... Because they instilled a "no fear" attitude in the players no matter who we were up against. Stubbsy also delivered the holy grail and remains a popular figure at easter road.

Like you say it's a hard call. On paper Malky McKay looks like he has that drive to succeed.. But its an appointment a lot of hibs fans wouldnae be happy with.

For any new manager, if he "hits the ground running" and gets the results required, everything else comes together nicely with the fans on board and forgetting the previous negative issues very quickly. As the late Jimmy Greaves used to say - "It's a funny old game"!

That could be fun. Can’t see him wanting to work under an ‘absent owner’, similar to his time at Sunderland, I think, which caused issues. Be interesting to see if anything develops from this ‘speculation’

I think that's just "paper talk" TBH Jim. Roy Keane would've been managing a footie club somewhere in England quite a while ago if he was seriously interested in giving it a go again. I doubt he'd ever come up here to a footie "backwater" called the SPFL. It looks like Hibs are not gonna make a move until season end, but one suspects that "feelers" will likely be implicitly made well before the final kick of this disappointing season. As previously commented - The question is, "Who is it gonna be"???

Correction to my comment re initial "feelers". It looks like Hibs going to meet potential candidates now and in the coming weeks. We'll find out soon enough if Hibs meet with Malky Mackay with the permission of his current footie club Chairman, Roy MacGregor, who was incidentally previously taken aback by the level of protest from his own fans re Mackay's appointment. I'm also wondering if Hibs will try to bring back big Marv from Livy in a new coaching role. I would personally like to see that happen at some stage as well. IMO it's all about imposing a new positive culture and impetus within the whole first team set up with the right people in place.

Tony Mowbray maybe coming back ? Hearing that he has been "sounded out".

Talking of comebacks, what about this top English Championship manager, Paul Heckingbottom? Whistle Big turnaround for him getting Sheffield United into the play-offs with a 51% win record as manager. Not easy in that league.

Even if we wanted him (which I doubt), I'm sure The Blades wouldn't let him go.

He was garbage for us ritchie......But thats the way it goes with Hibs.
