  All-time League Positions - upto 2015-16
Posted by: talkSAFT - 21-05-2016, 10:23 - Forum: West Bromwich Albion - Replies (8)

Albion remain in 11th position, and will probably never move from 11th in my lifetime.

No consideration is given to points accumulated, games won, or goals scored.
Based purely on League position since The Football League's.
inauguration (1888) these are the top 40 Clubs.

The League champions are awarded 92 League pts,
whilst the bottom team in League 2 are awarded 1 League point.

(Between 1924 and 1950, there were only 88 Clubs in the League,
and so the League champions gained 88 League pts.
Between 1888 (12 Clubs) and 1923 (86 Clubs) there were varying
nos of League members. The Champs get 12 pts (for example) for
winning the 1888-89 season,
When there were 2 Division 3s (North & South), the winners would have
each received 49 pts, whilst the runners-up both got 47.

1 Liverpool 8,114

Would anyone be interested in a Euro Predication League
Posted by: spireitematt - 20-05-2016, 23:53 - Forum: The European Championship "The Euros" - Replies (18)

Would anyone be interested in taking part in a Euro 2016 Predication League if we started one? Obviously there are two formats we could do but it would depend on the number of participants willing to take part.

We could just run it as one big league or we could have groups and the top two participants of each group would qualify for last 16 which would see people go head to head and so on till we have an overall winner in the final but like I said that all depends on the number of participants willing to take part.

I would be very happy to hear opinions and if people would be interested in taking part.

Thank you Thumb up

  The nonsense of Play offs
Posted by: Salopbaggie - 20-05-2016, 02:12 - Forum: West Bromwich Albion - Replies (18)

I know the topic comes up now and again............... but, the play off's.

We now see Walsall finishing third and being pushed out in one game (edit..2 games - TY St Charles) by the team finishing sixth.  It is such a lottery and its only purpose is to stringing out the season and make more money.

We always hear from the pundits "no one wins the league by accident", well if that is true and I am quite happy to accept that is, surely the same logic applies to "no one finishes third by accident".

Walsall finished with 10 points more than the team finishing in sixth place, so in two games,  potentially 10 games with getting something from a game, mean less than a team ability to get a result in two legs.

No I don't follow Walsall on the quiet, it is the whole issue of play offs I have a problem with!!

To me it just cheats a team deserving of promotion on ability and replaces them with a team who has earned their place by getting a result in a couple of games, unlike the seasons worth of games, which the team finishing third has achieved.

Just another excuse to earn a few more bob for some

  Sporting Club Albion
Posted by: derbybaggie - 19-05-2016, 23:23 - Forum: West Bromwich Albion - Replies (5)

This seems to have gone under that radar (unless I've missed something up here in the wilds of Derbyshire) but the Ladies of Sporting Club Albion have just won the The FA Women's Premier League - Northern Division (in addition to the County Cup). They also got to the quarter finals of the Women's FA Cup where they lost 2-0 to Manchester City who currently sit top of the Women's Super League First Division

From what I understand of the Woman's set up they now will have to play a match against the winners of the Southern Premier League (Brighton) with the winner of that match being promoted to the second division of the Women's Super League.

Don't know about you but I think that's worth celebrating. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be getting much coverage and as most of the relevant websites are woefully out of date it's difficult to find any current information out or when the play off match is.

Well done ladies! They score a load more goals than the men as well, maybe worth popping over to Halesowen to watch them play next season.
