The Daily Telegraph described this as a Valentine's Day massacre of the defences, saw second half and astounded as to how bad both sides were at the back, Swansea's second goal typified the game no home defenders saw the Swans take the quick corner and nobody was near Routledge about 10 yards out as he scored CRIMINAL

LAST SEASON

PNE 1 HULL CITY 2

City were on a good run as we had run out of fit players.

Another home game before we take on the minnows of Albion and Fulham away next week, do not know what to expect from the Tigers, the side who I saw batter Fulham at the Cottage, the one who hammered us at the KC although our lack of one full back caused us major issues.
Or will City be as pourous as they were against Swansea last week, yes they did score four but Swansea were as bad at the back as Hull were.
Since we last met they have sold Bowen and Grosicki, and replaced them with Wilks and the man with the tatts Maddison, McCann seems to be bringing in ex Peterbrough men as he as Da Silva Lopes and Tafazoli.
Maddison is an odd sort, wand of a left foot can be devastating on his day but basically being given away as a free by the Posh.
Eaves said at trhe end of last weeks game they will have some players back from injury they need them.

Bad news for Hull we hopefully will have two full backs and a fullish squad to pick from need a win considering the two away games we have looming.
Billy Bodin is getting closer to a return, having been out since early January, but Tom Bayliss has undergone an operation on his ankle which looks set to end his season early.
Match Officials: Hull City Home

For the fourth time this season Preston North End will have Steve Martin as the match official, when we face Hull City at Deepdale on Saturday.
He has already refereed the opening day 1-0 defeat to Millwall, the 1-0 win at Birmingham City in September and the 3-2 Lancashire derby success over Blackburn Rovers in November.

Steve also had whistle for the Millwall away game last season as well, when Alex Neil’s men came out 3-1 winners, back in February at The Den.

That was one of the match official’s three games officiating both North End in 2018/19, the others being PNE’s wins at Nottingham Forest and at home to Ipswich Town – his last visit to PR1 back in April, when we ran out 4-0 winners.
Since coming onto the EFL lists back in 2012/13, the Staffordshire referee has officiated 14 North End games, at least one a season for all the years he has been on the league groupings.
His first game was a goalless draw against Leyton Orient back in March 2013, whilst other memorable games include our 3-0 win at Havant & Waterlooville in the FA Cup in 2014, a 3-0 home win over Cardiff City in 2016 and a 3-1 win at Oldham’s Boundary Park in 2014.

This campaign, he has officiated a total of 25 matches across the four divisions, issuing 61 yellow cards and two red cards. His only game in charge of Saturday’s visitors this season came in their 2-1 home defeat to Huddersfield Town last month.

The other members of the third team involved in Saturday’s game are assistants Jonathan Hunt and Andrew Fox and fourth official Wade Smith.

Not at our best today however if we finish in the top six at the end of the season then this could be a might big three points, City had both first choice centre backs in the side which gave them a more solid look compared to last week shambolic defending.
City started well, a flurry of corners which we just about dealt with, we were second best across the park, Wilks had had two attemopts which were easily saved by Rudd and Eaves headed wide when in a good position. We had had two efforts Maguire flicked a header just wide and Barkhuizen fired over the top. The home crowd was getting slightly frustrated and when Rudd hammered a goal kick into touch, the groans from the stand were met by a response from the Vegan one.
Five minutes before the break the frustration grew even more when City took the lead, short corner Elder's cross into the box was superb nobody picked up Wilks simple header 1-0 City deserved as well.
And this is were you have to give credit to the support in the Alan Kelly didn't give the team the bird at half time gave them encouragement and it worked . City could have double the lead Magennis header over the top of Rudd, Davies cleared off the line. A decent move saw Fisher into the box clear in front of goal whether he mishit his shot or it was a pass I'll never know but the ball ran to Maguire who could have put it in with his Todger trouble was he did try to put it in with his Todger as the ball dribble towards the goal Burke managed to clear it.
Two significant events happened City lost Eaves injured North End brought on Stockley and Browne. North End levelled from a penalthy after a foul? on Fisher, looked soft, but Gallagher absolutely buried it, all us now and soon we were in front, Browne to Stockley, ball into box and Browne was never going to miss.
City brought on the tallest player in football league history Balogh and went more aerial but we survived without too much alarm, a mazy run from Pearson could have resulted in a third but that may have been a tad harsh on the Tigers but as I said the three points could be extremely important at the end of the season.

Grant's not impressed with Darnell

Hull City head coach Grant McCann told BBC Radio Humberside:

"I thought the performance, for an away performance, was good on the whole. For probably 10 or 15 minutes they upped the ante a little bit.

"We switched off for the second goal [and] we had spoken at half time about people getting in between us and being a bit more compact.

"The first goal is embarrassing, really, the way Fisher has thrown himself to the floor is scary. We're frustrated because up to that point we were largely in control. After that, the [second] goal is good from their point of view but a poor one from us."
