LAST MEETING
PRESTON NORTH END 3 SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY 3
LAST TIME OUT
PRESTON NORTH END 3 STOKE CITY 1
SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY 1 LUTON TOWN 0
Match Officials: Sheffield Wednesday Home
The match official for Saturday’s clash with Lee Bullen’s Sheffield Wednesday at Deepdale is Robert Jones.
The referee, from Merseyside, is in his fourth season on the EFL lists. He has officiated four North End games during his career the last being the April home game against Leeds United, when Ben Pearson saw red.
His first visit to PR1 was the 1-1 draw against Rotherham in April 2017 and, prior to the Leeds game, he most recently he refereed the Lilywhites’ 2-1 victory away against QPR in April 2018.
The 33-year-old’s other game at Deepdale saw him send off PNE midfielder John Welsh for two bookable offences during the 1-1 draw against Wolves in February 2018.
He has already officiated three games this season, beginning with Bristol City’s home win over QPR and most recently Leeds’ 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest. In those games he has issued four yellow cards in each match.
The assistants for the day’s game will be Daniel Leach and Andrew Fox while Aaron Jackson is the fourth official.
Wendies arrive having had a decent start to the season even without a permanent manager after Steve the Cabbage Bruce departed to Noocastle, having survived a transfer ban by selling their ground to themselves canny move in itself they appear to be on an upward curve. Now the second biggest side in Sheffield following the Blunts promotion there is pressure on from the fans to achieve the same probably the worst thing they can do is appoint Lee Bullen as a permanent boss, if they do watch their form go west.
They have made sone good signings over the summer Luongo, Borner, Jacob Murphy and Harris.
Should be a decent game although we have Mr Jones as official. The meetings between the two have been littered with red cards over the past feaw seasons although the two we got for fighting each other were probably the strangest of them all.
Expect a full away end.
