Pulis’ subs changed his formation and tactics. BD makes like for like changes.

I’m sick of this playing out of the back, it must have cost us 10 goals against so far.

When are BD, Jones and Johnston gonna learn. It’s slipping away folks.

I think another manager could do so much more with this squad of players.

I was frozen and angry at full time but not really surprised. Same mistakes by players and management and a non existent owner.

Very good analysis. I too have my heart in my mouth whenever Johnstone tries to play these intricate balls through the lines. Bond has done the same in the cup games too, so this nonsense is obviously coached. The worst of it is, whenever Johnstone does a bad pass down the centre, our centre backs will have code really wide to open passing lanes, so we're then completely open, like yesterday.

The stupid even more illogical about this nonsense is that, whenever Johnstone does decide to play it wide to Hegazi on the left edge of the box, all he does is boot it with his wrong foot anyway. Johnstone could've put us in a better area by going long in the first place.

I love the idea of total football, but putting yourself in unnecessary sh*te isn't the foundations of that.

At least when Barnes was playing, we had some logical reason to invite the press, because he could usually be found between the lines. Without him, I really don't see the point. None of Gayle, Rodriguez or Kanu seem to float likes Barnes did.

There seems to be a new found obsession with 'playing out from the back' that has correlated with Man City's success under Guardiola. But what these moronic managers can't seem to get their heads around is you can't coach that, players are either great footballers or they aren't. Guardiola has purposely bought a goalkeeper who could probably play in midfield for most sides. He hasn't tried to coach donkeys to do it.

The likes of Barry and Livermore are good at winning the 2nd ball, while Gayle and Rodriguez are very competitive off the first ball anyway, so we seem more effective on the occasions when Johnstone goes direct.

Whilst JRod and Gayle were not hugely better, they both scored and are always likely to do so. For me, this doesn’t apply to Kanu - I honestly have no idea what BD thinks he adds to the team.
Today was a wretched performance. I know it was individual errors that cost us but the midfield was lightweight and had no creator or pace. Pulis set up two banks of big players and we had no idea how to break them down. The substitutions in the second half were the wrong ones. Pulis schooled BD today.

Also meant to say that I listened to BD’s post match interview on WM on my way home. Five minutes of utter nothing. I love the guy but I’m really struggling to take him seriously as a manager

Agreed, I've said all that needs to be said about Darren, so no need to add anything.
It's other difficult decisions that now have to be addressed.
It must be the ultimate embarrassment losing to TP at HOME and AWAY

1. Brunt should not play in central midfield (we all know that), so if Darren chooses to put him in there he takes the blame when it goes wrong.
2. Brunt & Mozza have been great servants for the club, but time has caught up with them. Emergency cover only from now on IMO.
3. HRK another who is simply not good enough, flatters to deceive, alas he is good for 5 minutes a game on occasions. Another who's time is up.
4. Johansen IMO our best signing didn't even make the bench most bizzare?
5.  HRK starts !!! pantomime is over, well I thought it was ?
6. Mears and Hoolahan both signing extended contracts !! are they really going to play, really come on it's just another old pals act?
7. Sentiment has no place in football on or off the field and we are paying the price for it.
8. History shows Brunt / Mozza / Phillips / HRK as strikers over the last 3 years goals return has been tbh useless for whatever reason or excuse (average 3 goals a season between them).
9. Playing Gayle wide is a no no - he plays central or free, but not wide.
No I don't have all the answers, but the outstanding issues are there for all to see. Well 20,000 can see them.

A simple answer to your issue list is - Right or wrong Jones & Moore pick the team and decide the tactics not you.

You’re absolutely right, of course. However, as this is a fans’ forum which welcomes debate and opinions, it’s good that Phil and everyone else posts thoughts that we either agree or disagree with.

I'm trying not to be a whinging supporter, I'm just stating some facts, some guesses, some opinions. I don't like knocking anyone or anything to do with my beloved club. But I'm also a realist and apply common sense (well that's also debatable) The early part of the season was a refreshing change from what we were used to, unfortunately the roller coaster has been going downhill since November. We should have been 5 points clear at the top of the table now IMO.
We have the players and the best squad, even our 2nd 11 should get a play off place, The sides around us are rubbish, Norwich top of the table says it all. Good luck to them, just goes to show what GOOD SENSIBLE MANAGEMENT can achieve. It's certainly not because they have signed all the best players that's for sure. Begs the question why we are where we are? I will leave posters to ask themselves what the answer is?
This "we score as a team and we conceed as a team" nonsense is a load of waffle too. We score because Gayle, Rodriguez, Barnes and Phillips are too good for this division. We conceed because they've been instructed to p*ss around at the back, allow large amounts of shots at a shakey goalkeeper, and because our midfield is always knackered and bypassed in the last 20 mins due to lack of and/or awful substitutions. Angry

This surprises me, as professional players train to play 90 minutes, not 70/80 minutes. Huh Also we don't have a lack of substitutes, just awful decisions as to who to put on to replace a knackered player, or change the dynamics of the game.

Why is that decision process flawed at our club, is this not just basic common sense?
It actually makes you worried if the management can't see what I think almost 100% of supporters can see ?

I mean don't fix anything up front it's OK
But simply don't pi55 about with it at the back ?
Oh and don't play Brunt CM although we have been saying this for half a season Rolleyes

Agreed

If you do the same you expect the same. Promotion is still wide open for whoever wants it.
Up front is a problem especially if you try playing Gayle a winger, what the hell is that about?
Johansen could  be the major change for us, we need him playing ASAP and not tippy tappy stuff.
But a countries captain with 40 caps and he didn't even make our bench on Sat, it's a complete mystery to me?

That's got to be a fitness /sharpness thing; I may be wrong but I don't think he's played much recently.
I agree that he looks like he could be a crucial player in the middle, and be the energetic box to box link that will hopefully be both always available and make space for others, a la Mulumbu
