I know that when a new management team starts at a club, the fans are usually supportive and enthusiastic for a while until reality sets in (Pardew excepted). However I am astonished at the reaction of their fans on the recruitment of their particularly motley crew of Smith and Terry. It's as if some them think, they are as good as up. Why do they do this to themselves?
Dean Smith has done well at both Walsall and Brentford and, like some in his position has shifted players along with him. What can Terry, who appears to be a manager-in-waiting, learn from him? Terry has played under Mourinho, Scholari and Ancelotti and now finds himself no 2 to Dean Smith? Is Richard O'Kelly coming too, as teaboy or is that Terry's job? They play Swansea at the weekend - a tough fixture against a former PL team. Fans will expect nothing short of a convincing win. A draw or home defeat will bring instant pressure on the "dream team".
Villa have a decent squad, no doubt. How much was it Bruce's fault that they failed to fire? What is going to change in the short run to bring them back into contention? Are they hoping to sneak Terry on in an unmarked shirt because their defence is as bad as ours? Don't get me wrong, I expect them to improve because this team cannot play much worse.
This obviously has a bearing on us inasmuch as there is only one place for us to play for if we want automatic promotion, according to their fans. Our man Darren Moore has made a great start and although we have issues in defence and possible key player loan recalls, we still have the talent of Sako to come in and the possibility of Bradley Dack, should things go our way in the January window. My money is still on us.
It's a shame Dean Smith went to Villa - I quite like him but obviously now want him to fail.
I can see the usual upturn in results short term, and then mediocrity.
Let's hope it's not quite THAT good.
I think it’ll be the opposite of what drewks said. I think he’ll have a slow start as he gets to know the players and tries to change the style to his way. I think there’ll be problems early on in the adjustment period but then it’ll click and they will start going on winning runs. Then they will be in the top 6 come the end of the season where they’ll bottle it in the play-offs.

We on the other hand will be in the top 2 at the end of the season with our middle fingers in the air aimed at them. (I pray to God that I haven’t just jinxed it)
Interesting article in Four Four Two about Villa and their problems. Particular attention should be paid to the parachute payments. Lets hope The Baggies aren't in this position in two seasons' time!!

Taxi driver tried to charge me £80 from the Witton the other night. When I questioned it he said, "The distance between West Brom and the Villa just keeps getting bigger and bigger."

Nice of you to drop in, D-D. Whistle
Keep the jokes coming! Laugh
Not sure what Villa fans are moaning about. Dean Smith is perfect for them, after all he has lots of experience in managing bottom half championship teams.
This is an old thread which someone has kindly regurgitated. I wrote it because, at the time Villa fans were confident of promotion ahead. Moreover there were some Baggie fans advocating Dean Smith before his appointment at Villa to replace Moore. Moreover they:have Terry with all his defensive no how. Villa are in 92nd place for home goals conceded. Be careful what you wish for.
