THE MATCH - TUESDAY 13TH DECEMBER 2016 at 7.45PM BST
V
If ever there was a must win game, then this might just be it!!! While our recent results have been decent we have struggled to string enough wins together to separate us from the pack like the top 3 seem to have done. The pack is bunched all around us and if we have any true aspirations of promotion then we need to at the very least win our home games starting with this one.
A South Yorkshire derby and for me our second biggest derby after the Steel City one. The Dingles were promoted via the playoffs last season after going on a remarkable run that took them from the relegation places in November to Wembley and promotion in May. They have continued that good form this season and have had a decent start with some surprising results along the way. Currently they are 11th, just 3 points behind us so will overtake us if they take the points. So far they have won 2-1 at Preston, 4-0 at Wolves and 3-0 at Brum, so they are certainly no mugs away from home!!
This will be the 70th meeting between us and we have a good record of W34 D13 L22, and our home record is even better than that at W24 D4 L8, thats a record we need to uphold in this game!! When you look at games between us at S6 it seems there is invariably only one goal between the teams, in fact you have to go back to 2001 to find a win by 2 goals when we won 3-1, so I expect the same close game again!! Our last home game saw us take the points with a 1-0 win courtesy of a 90th minute winner from Chris Maguire. It was a feisty affair that ended up seeing 3 red cards (JJ for us)!! Lee, Palmer, Semedo and Nuhiu played that day and Jack Hunt played for them while with them on loan.
THE LAST MATCH
Chance after chance it would seem but with no end product with regards to making the keeper actually work. Maybe not a surprise with Joao and Nuhiu up front but it is essentially the same old story with our finishing!! Not sure we deserved to lose and maybe a point would have been fair but our poor finishing not only costs us scoring goals but it put pressure on the rest of the team to keep it tight, and that can lead to the sort of mix up by Loovens and Lees for their second goal!! We need a prolific striker!!!
WHO'S IN AND WHO'S OUT
No FF or Hooper again so who will get the nod to get us back to winning ways?? Here is my team:
