THE MATCH - SUNDAY 7TH AUGUST 2016 at 16.30PM BST
V
So after the disappointment of the PO final and the subsequent England capitulation to the mighty Iceland we finally get back to proper football!! While we didn't want to still be in the Championship it was always a multi year project to get us back to the Prem, so after reaching the playoffs last season it would appear we are on target to push on again this season.
The fixture computer certainly has given us a high profile start, facing the Prems worst team last season in Aston Villa as our first game and first home game to boot. Feels odd not to be on a Saturday, but Sky make those decisions these days!! Either way without any prem football the eyes of the football nation will be on us hopefully!!
This will be the 134th meeting with them with a not great record of W51 D17 L65, but our home record against them is excellent at W39 D8 L19 and over the last 10 games at home we have W3 D1 L6, but as the last game was 16 years ago it really has no bearing whatsoever this time around!!
WHO'S IN AND WHO'S OUT
So where do we stand after a summer of transfer activity?? ( ) Essentially we have shipped out one GK in Price and brought in one striker, Fletcher, one midfield, Abdi, and one defender, Pudil. Not a great number but the quality certainly seems to be there in terms of improving the starting 11. We still feel a bit thin if we take a few injuries or suspensions, but our starting 11 is as good as we have seen for a long time. So how will we line up, here's mine:
Westwood
Hunt Lees Hutchinson Pudil
Bannan Abdi Lee
Hooper Forestieri
Fletcher
Will he start with three strikers?? Will he essentially play 3 in midfield?? Will Hutch or Semedo start at CB? A lot of options for CC to ponder!! What do you think we will look like when the team is announced??
THE LAST MATCH
Suspended for this game, don't need to relive that one again!!
Here though is the video of the last time we beat them at home, also an opening fixture I believe. We still had the remnants of our better team from the early 90s but the writing was on the wall with this team even though they won that day!! Goals from Humphreys and Wittingham saw us take all the points in a 2-1 win. Interestingly, this was also the last time we played in a non-traditional blue and white striped shirt!!
WHO'S THE BASTARD IN THE BLACK
Ref - STEPHEN MARTIN
Assts - Jonathan Hunt and Matthew McGrath
Fourth Official - Carl Boyeson
MS will give us the run down on him.
CURRENT FORM - League games only
Lets wait a few weeks to bring this one back.
BIG MAN'S LEAGUE
Current Table
Starting from scratch once again, OwlKev is the reigning champion, who will it be this season.
- Maddix
- St Charles
- Madsteve
- Wereham
PREDICTIONS
Once again I will try to vary these for the away games but its the usual for the home games.
SCORE AND SCORER (No copying allowed, home team score first to keep Imre happy)
2-1 Abdi - St Charles
ATTENDANCE (Must be at least 100 away from any prior prediction, closest wins)
We have all seen the number of STs we have sold, we can easily find out what Villa have sold so this one is down to how many POTD fans turn up.
28,691 - St Charles
OTHER MATCHES OF INTEREST (4 correct will win a , all 5 will win 2 , copying is allowed)
Not many games on Sunday this week so a few odd ones!!
QPR v L**ds (12.30pm KO)
Leicester City v Manchester United (16.00 KO)
Sweden v Nigeria (Men's Olympic Qualifying)
Germany v South Korea (Men's Olympic Qualifying)
Argentina v Algeria (Men's Olympic Qualifying)
Aside from the QPR game, all the others are on neutral grounds so the home team is the one listed first.
HAADH - St Charles
THE MUPPET LEAGUE
Dave Jones - after his comments before the Cardiff game, my fault for letting him out in the first place!!
KATE BECKINSALE TRIBUTE PICS
THE MAGIC ARSE

This thread awaits the Meggo of Stateside's choice.
