THE MATCH - TUESDAY 23RD FEBRUARY 2016 7.45PM KO
v
Back to fortress Hillsborough for a Tuesday night game against one of last seasons relegated prem teams. QPR have certainly not lived up to their potential this season, especially as surprisingly they kept hold of Austin and Phillips in the summer!! Austin has now gone but they didn't really make use of the two true quality player that they have. Their form was so disappointing that they recently changed manager and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has stepped up a division to try to rebuild them and move them back to the prem.
So even though at the start of the season we would have seen this as a potentially difficult game, they have not challenged like Hull and Burnley have and this becomes a game that will obviously not be easy but is one we should be able to win.
This will be our 64th meeting with QPR and our record is decent at W28 D15 L21. Our home record against them is excellent, standing at W21 D3 L8, and we have won 4 out of the last 5 at home!! Our game at Loftus Road earlier in the season ended 0-0 with CC playing what looks like a semi-reserve side for us. Our last game against them at S6 ended in a nice 3-0 win with Maguire, Best and Buxton getting the goals and them being reduced to 10 men after 33 mins:
LINKS BETWEEN THE CLUBS
Past Players
Gary Bannister, Ron and Peter Springett and Simon Stainrod played for both clubs. Of course the Springett brothers was an interesting one with us selling Ron to them in exchange for his brother Peter coming the other way!!
Past Managers
Steve Burtenshaw and Trevor Francis have managed both clubs and our ex-player Jim Magilton has also managed them.
I am sure there are other links between the clubs, if you know of any please feel free to mention!!
THE LAST MATCH
All good things come to an end and all that!!! Against a form team, on their patch, reduced to 10 men and not clicking on all cylinders either led to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Preston, our first defeat of the current year. By no means a disaster and we are still nicely placed in the playoff spots but it does put a bit more pressure on this match to get a result. No real stand out performances and obviously losing FF really hurt our chances of taking anything from this game. As I said, disappointing!!
OUR TEAM
Well we know FF won't feature in this game but do we see any other changes as well?? Hutch may well be back for this one but if not I am sure Sasso will continue at CB, unless of course Hutch comes back into midfield. Where was McGeady on Saturday as well?? So who will replace FF?? Will it be McGeady as a winger or will it be Matias in a bit more of a roving role or maybe McGugan just behind a front 2?? Either way FF will be missed but we are not a one-man team these days.
Westwood
Hunt Sasso Lees Pudil
Lee Hutchinson Bannan
McGugan
Hooper Joao
Lets attack from the start, especially as we seem to usually start so slow, lets get a lead and then push on from there!!
