Scotland Women lost their 1st game today, to Canada by 6 shots to 7. This evening's game saw them recover well to beat Sweden 8-6. By scoring in the 7th and 8th ends the Scots gained the advantage and saw the game out. Tomorrow's game is against Switzerland at 1pm.

Switzerland lead the table at the halfway point with 5 wins. Scotland have 4 wins ahead of Japan, Norway and Sweden on 3 wins.

Scotland Men also lost their 1st game today, going down by 5-8. They were always behind from the 2nd end onwards and rarely looked like troubling the Germans. Redemption might be at hand tomorrow with games against China at 8am and Switzerland at 8pm.

Germany lead with 4 wins, followed by Norway, Scotland, Switzerland and United States on 3 wins.
Another bad day at the office for the Scotland Juniors, the Women losing their only game against Switzerland by a massive score of 2-10 after only 6 ends. They lost counts of 4 shots in the 4th and 6th ends, leaving them no option but to concede and get off the ice as quickly as possible. Tomorrow's games are against dangerous Korea at 8am and even more dangerous Norway at 6pm.

Switzerland are now the only unbeaten team and lead the table with 6 wins, followed by Japan, Norway, Scotland and Sweden on 4 wins, then Korea on 3 wins. Germany have 2 wins, but still have a good chance to catch those above them.

The Men fared little better, losing 3-9 against China, and after giving up 3 shots in both the 1st and 7th ends, they conceded too. However, this evening's game saw a much better performance against Switzerland, eventually winning 8-3. The Scottish team scored in the 1st end and kept the Swiss at bay all the way through and scored 3 shots against the hammer (not having last stone) in the 9th end. The Men have only 1 game tomorrow at 2pm against Korea, who are capable of beating anyone and must be shown full respect.

Germany still lead on 5 wins. then Norway, Scotland and United States have 4 wins. China, Italy and Switzerland have 3 wins. Even Canada on 2 wins are within striking distance of qualification, although they will have to hope for other results to go their way.
A better day for the Scotland Women with a narrow win against Korea by 6-5. There were no scores in the first 3 ends, then the Scots took the lead in the 4th end and were never behind after that. In the evening session, they had another close game, this time against Norway, but lost 6-7 in the last end. A reasonable day's play, considering they were up against two of the top teams.

With only one game left, Switzerland and Norway are guaranteed Semi-finalists, Switzerland on 8 wins and Norway on 6 wins. Japan, Scotland and Sweden are tied on 5 wins to contest the remaining 2 places. For the crunch game tomorrow afternoon, the Scots take on United States.

Scotland Men had an equally close encounter with Korea, winning 7-6 in the last end with 2 shots.

The Men have 2 games to play tomorrow and Germany have already done enough to qualify with 6 wins. Scotland lie second with 5 wins, followed by China, Italy, Norway, Switzerland and United States on 4 wins. The Scottish team play United States at 8 am and finish against Norway at 6pm, both tough opponents. If it's any consolation, both China and Italy also have 2 games against the above challengers, so the final table might be turned upside down, with 6 teams playing for 3 Semi-final places.
Scotland Women came good at the right time this afternoon, scoring 2 shots against the hammer in the last end to pip the United States 8-7. This result means that they finished 3rd and now qualify for the Semi-finals tomorrow, playing Norway at 1pm. The other Semi-final is Japan v Switzerland at the same time.

Scotland Men ensured their qualification this morning by beating United States 6-2 after 9 ends. Then they beat Norway 8-5, also after 9 ends. They now finish 2nd in the Group and play China in the Semi-finals, with Germany playing Norway, both games at 6pm.

The other big news is that both Canadian teams and both United States teams are relegated to the B Division for next season.
Firstly, congratulations to the Scotland Women on getting through to the Finals tomorrow after beating Norway 6-5 by scoring 2 shots in the last end. It was a topsy-turvy game, but Scotland managed to keep last stone going into the last end which proved vital.

They now play Japan who beat prviously unbeaten Switzerland 7-5, scoring 3 shots in the last end, again with last stone. The Gold/Silver match is set for 8am tomorrow, as is the Bronze Medal match between Norway and Switzerland.

On the other hand the Scotland Men got into a right guddle in their game against China, losing 1-8 after 9 ends. Amazingly they had last stone in 8 of these ends and only scored once, with China playing a superb defensive game, leaving the Scots frustrated and deflated well before the end.

The Scottish team now play Norway in the Bronze Medal match at 1pm tomorrow with China and Germany playing in the Gold/Silver match at the same time.
Now the undeniable fact that dare not be mentioned can finally be mentioned.

Scotland Women won the Gold Medal against current champions Japan by 9-7, scoring 5 shots in the last 2 ends in the process. Remember that the Scottish Women had only qualified through the B Division earlier in the year. Never before had a qualifier from the B Division won Gold in these Championships. Well done to Scotland for a brilliant performance. Fay Henderson finishes her junior career on a high.

Well done also to Norway who won Bronze, who beat Switzerland 8-5 in the other Medal Game. Switzerland had been unbeaten in the 9 games in the Round Robin, but lost the 2 games at the business end of the competition.

The Scotland Men also came good after their below-par performance yesterday, cruising past Norway 11-4 after 9 ends - a lot of personal pride at stake in this game, I'm sure. And it's back to school on Monday for Orrin Carson, complete with Bronze Medal.

The Gold/Silver match was won by China who beat Germany by 8-7. The Germans delighted the home crowd by coming back from 3-7 down after 6 ends to be drawing 7-7 at the 9th end. China eventually made last stone advantage count with a single shot in the final end.
