Gillingham have not disclosed the length of Wright's contract.

"He is a player that has potential to improve and he adds versatility to our backline; he is comfortable as a right-back or right sided centre-half," Neil Harris told the club website.

The Gills boss added: "He is adaptable to playing in a back three or in a back four and has the capability to grow as a centre-half over time," Harris added.

Gillingham have signed former Republic of Ireland midfielder Shaun Williams.

The 35-year-old, who won three caps for his country in 2018, was a free agent having left Portsmouth this summer.

Williams previously worked with Gills boss Neil Harris during a seven-and-a-half-year spell at Millwall, which came to an end last year.

He began his career in England with Milton Keynes Dons in 2011 before moving to Millwall three years later, and has played 467 games in that time.

Gillingham have not disclosed the length of Williams' deal at the club.

"I know the characteristics that Shaun will bring to the dressing room, but also the pitch," Harris told the club website.

"He provides a calming influence, on and off the pitch; he is a leader in the changing room.

"He is a very, very intelligent footballer, and quality player at the level."

Gillingham have signed midfielder Dominic Jefferies from Brentford.

Gillingham have not disclosed the length of Jefferies' contract.

It is also unknown whether the League Two club have paid a fee for the player, who scored eight goals and made seven assists for Brentford B last season.

"He is an exciting prospect that the fans are really going to enjoy watching develop over a period of time," Gills manager Neil Harris told the club website.

"He comes to us with great pedigree having come through Newport's first-team level before moving on to Brentford B.

"He's an energetic, box-to-box, wholehearted, aggressive footballer that we think has got a lot of potential to develop with us, and we look forward to seeing him in a Gills shirt."
