Preston North End v Sheffield Wednesday Deepdale 27/4/2019

There is actually something riding on th is game Wednesday can still technically get to the play offs with two games to play, four points behind with two to play although if either Brizzle or Direby win on Saturday they play each other this will probably mean this game is an end of season affair.
Owls have improved since they appointed many with multi directional nose Steve Bruce, have been hindered like us with a staggering amount of injuries although the selection proceedure of the previous manager might also have hindered them as well.
Overall though they have had a decent season but will be casting envious eyes towards the other side of the City as the Blunts are almost certainly to be promoted on Saturday.
Games between the two sides have been competitive over the last few seasons, plenty of red cards which brings me onto the one man suspension machine commonly known as Ben Pearson, he available to play after his latest ban, he's on 14 yellows one more would mean yet another ban and he was sent off rather unluckily at Hillsborough earlier in the season and also has history with one Fernando Forestieri, add into this mix Trevor Kettle as fourth official anything could happen on Saturday.
Givn the slightly iffy forcast I may be there or possibly running after a little red ball on Mossom Lane in Blackpool, will be a match report of sorts on Saturday.

Team News: Sheffield Wednesday

It is a case of one in, one out for manager Alex Neil ahead of his side’s final home game of the season, as they take on Steve Bruce’s Sheffield Wednesday at Deepdale.

Ben Pearson is free of suspension, however, fellow defensive midfielder Ryan Ledson must sit of the first of four games, that will carry on into next season, following his second red card of the season against Wigan Athletic next Monday.

Goalkeeper Connor Ripley returned to the bench for the clash with the Latics at the DW Stadium, but the manager is still without an octet of senior players for the clash with the Owls.

Captain Tom Clarke, Alan Browne, Josh Harrop, Andrew Hughes, Brandon Barker, Tom Barkhuizen and Brad Potts, plus the suspended Ledson are all unavailable for selection.

Adam O’Reilly has been on the bench for the last two games and with no let up in the injury problems, he could again keep his spot amongst the squad.

Former North End loanee Adam Reach missed Wednesday’s impressive Easter Monday win over Bristol City at Hillsborough with a mixture of knee and Achilles injuries and he is a doubt again for the weekend.

One player definitely out is Sam Hutchinson, whose hamstring problem will rule him out for the rest of the season, whilst Cameron Dawson could continue in goal with Keiren Westwood still a doubt with the knee injury that forced him off early against title-favourites Norwich City last week.

Rolando Arrons should be fit to play a part after a week of training with the Owls squad, the loanee’s pace will be a positive addition to the options for Bruce, who takes charge of his first game of the season at Deepdale, having been the manager at Villa for our thrilling 3-3 draw back in October at Villa Park.

Ref Watch: Sheffield Wednesday

For the third time this season, Jeremy Simpson will take charge of the Lilywhites at Deepdale, as we face Steve Bruce’s Sheffield Wednesday.

The Carnforth referee last took charge of us for the 1-1 draw with Bristol City at the beginning of March, having also officiated the October clash at home to Rotherham United, prior to which he had not refereed the Lilywhites since January 2018, when he was the match official for the draw at Millwall, his second North End game of 2017/18; his first the 1-0 home win over Queens Park Rangers in December 2017.

This will also be Jeremy’s third Owls game of the season, having refereed their 2-1 victory against Ipswich Town at Hillsborough and their 2-1 home defeat against Derby County back in November 2018.

In 2016/17, the select group two match official took the role for our Boxing Day clash with Leeds United and the Lilywhites’ Roses victory over Huddersfield Town in October, as well as acting as fourth official at two home games.

He also was in charge when North End took on Stoke City at PR1 in pre-season that year, and is an experienced official, with plenty of Championship action under his belt.

This weekend he will be assisted by Daniel Leach and Billy Smallwood, whilst Trevor Kettle will be the fourth official.
