AEK Athens v Celtic

This is the kinda challenge that Celtic must "take on" and win to back up their credentials of being worthy participants in the Champions League proper! It will be tough at a "red hot" venue full of fanatical Greek fans but that is what it is all about - earning that right in extreme, testy circumstances. Rodgers will need to utilise all his player resources to the full and hopefully progress to the play off round.

So the Hoops arrive in Greece but Boyata left behind and looks like he has 'downed tools' based on recent comments by his agent. Ajer also suspended for this match. IMO Rodgers needs this "side show" like a "hole in the head" - definitely needs a big result tomorrow night! This story goes back to the summer when Rodgers wanted certain targeted players but the board didn't move on it to the manager's dissatisfaction.

Its this sort of thing from the Celtic board that will end up with Rodgers taking a job in the Prem where he is guaranteed the ability to spend money.

Yep! Celtic and Rodgers not fully prepared up to now but there is still time to remedy the situation. I'd suggest to the manager that he takes the reputed £9M for an unhappy Boyata and "get rid" with a year remaining on his contract. It leaves him short but he still has time to fit in a decent defensive replacement + other positions that require to be bolstered with competition for them.

I just cant see them qualifying here. There feels like something is definitely 'up' behind the scenes and they are woefully short of quality for this level at the back. AEK don't tend to lose many at home and their coach seemed a pretty 'cool customer' in the first leg.

Word is edouard is struggling too which almost certainly means sparky will start up front.

Apparently Dembele fit and ready to go Jim. That might be a wee boost for Rodgers if true. Sparky strikes me as not being fully match fit yet.

Apparently rodgers called a squad meeting and told the players he is definitely staying on.

It's another way of motivating a player squad and dispelling any nagging doubts re a lotta the "shit" that is being peddled by the Hun media at the moment.

Now Boyata professing on Twitter that he is injured - gotta knee injury! Possibly true but I'm sure the true story will unfold eventually and hopefully he and his agent will be vindicated.

Celtic already "on the brink" - an awful start to this match and Celtic losing 1-0 "early doors"! Same score line at HT and a huge 2nd half coming up for Rodgers and his Hoops' players!

2-0 right after HT - looks like "game over" and a multi-million pound loss for Celtic who will drop down to a Europa League play off spot.

FT 2-1 and almost a heroic comeback by Celtic after Sinclair scored on 74mins. A cute Simunovic flick drifts agonisingly past the AEK posts with secs remaining - a disappointing "big moment" and Celtic exit the Champions League!
