The first round of the League Cup on Tuesday, an ideal chance to get back on the winning front against our local league 2 neighbours. This is the third meeting in the competitions between the sides, the first was 11 years to the date when they meet on Tuesday, when Morecambe won with a late goal 2-1 following a howler by Wayne Henderson North End's glass back keeper.
Two years later we gained revenge with a 5-1 victory both games were played at Deepdale.
Morecambe avoided relegation by the skin of their teeth last season on goal difference gaining a point on the last day of the season at Coventry when apparently neither side made much of an effort to attack in the last 15 minutes.
This season they kicked off in style losing 6-0 at Crewe however performed better in losing at home to Exeter 2-0 yesterday.
They have had financial struggles in the last couple of seasons, having a couple sub 1000 gates, during one of these crisis we bought Barkhuizen for about 175000 which at the time kept them afloat.
Thet have some experience with Barry Roche in goal and Kevin Ellison(Pictured)
Ellison six months shy of his 40th birthday second top scorer with nine has been knocking them in at a fair rate over the last few season however this has been done whilst battling with depression and deserves much praise.
Also in the squad is ex Lancaster player Alex Kenyon.
Expect Neil to ring the changes and put out a side which should win the game unlike at Accrington last season.
Ref Watch: Morecambe
On Tuesday night, the Lilywhites will have a match official taking charge of them for the first time.
Yorkshire referee Tom Nield will be man in charge for the first time at Deepdale, in his second year on the EFL list of officials.
Last season, he took charge of 29 games, issuing 65 cautions and two red cards, with one of those games being Morecambe’s FA Cup home win over National League outfit Hartlepool in the first round of the Emirates FA Cup.
His first game of this season Nield took charge of Carlisle United’s 2-2 home draw with Northampton Town at Brunton Park at the weekend.
The match official will be assisted by Simon Clayton and Danny Gratton, whilst the fourth official will be Gary Hilton.
