Queens Park Rangers v Preston North End Loftus Road 19/1/2019 - themaclad - 17-01-2019

A trip to the capital for yours truly 9.58 am train then tube to Loftus Road to see us play a side who have improved leaps and bounds this season after a dreadful start, they are in a decent run of form 11th in the table but form wise they are 6th, lost last time out at Leeds but have not lost at home since the beginning of December when Hull won there. Have a side with experience plus some good young players and the signing of Nahki Wells very astute he is decent at this level. Beat them 1-0 on the opening day of the season, tougher game this, looks like Clarke misses out so Fisher will play right back, may the Lord have mercy on our souls, Darnell has gone backwards this season.
Be back late on Saturday so match blog on Sunday anyway here;s the usual wiki and team news gubbins.

Queens Park Rangers Football Club, commonly abbreviated to QPR, is a professional association football club based in White City, London. The team currently plays in the Championship, the second tier of English football. Their most recent appearance in the Premier League was during their 2014–15 season. Their honours include winning the League Cup in 1967, as well as the Second Division in 1983 and the Championship in 2011. QPR were also triumphant in the 2013–14Championship playoffs and were winners of the Third Division South in 1947–48 and the Third Division in 1966–67. They were runners-up in the First Division in 1975–76, and reached the final of the 1982 FA Cup.[2]

Queens Park Rangers were founded in 1886 after the merger of Christchurch Rangers and St. Judes Institute. In the early years after the club's formation in its original home of Queen's Park, London, they played their home games at many different grounds, until finally the club settled into its current location at Loftus Road.[2]

Owing to their proximity to the other west London clubs, QPR maintain long-standing rivalries with several other clubs in the surrounding area. The most notable of these are Chelsea, Fulham and Brentford, with whom they contest the West London Derbies.[2]

Team News: Queens Park Rangers

Manager Alex Neil goes from feast to famine at one end of the pitch and vice versa at the other after last weekend’s game.
In the clash with Swansea City at Deepdale he welcomed three new forward-thinking options to his squad, plus others back from injury, however, in the game he lost three defensive options in the space of 35 second half minutes.

Paul Huntington was replaced at half-time with a groin problem and he will be assessed ahead of the trip to the capital. Skipper Tom Clarke then left the pitch with a calf complaint and he too is a doubt for the clash with Steve McClaren’s men.

Finally, Josh Earl - on for Huntington at half-time – was sent off with just under ten minutes left, for two yellow cards, and he will miss the trip to Loftus Road.
Fellow defender, Ben Davies, who has missed the last four games, has made a return to training after a hamstring complaint, along with Louis Moult, who has been out since the Sheffield Wednesday game, just before Christmas, with the same injury.
Transfer window signings Josh Ginnelly and Connor Ripley are awaiting their first opportunities and will push for inclusion, having got run outs in a behind closed doors game against Graham Alexander’s Salford City in midweek.

QPR manager Steve McClaren has a strong squad to choose from. Darnell Furlong did enough for the R's in their FA Cup win over Leeds United to retain his place for last weekend's trip to Sheffield United.

He is likely to continue at right back in the absence of the injured Angel Rangel, who remains sidelined with Geoff Cameron and Tomer Hemed, whilst Massimo Luongo is still on international duty with Australia, having secured them a last 16 place in the Asian Cup with a late winner against Syria in midweek.

Ref Watch: Queens Park Rangers

This weekend, one of the most experienced Championship officials, Andy Madley, will take charge of North End’s game against Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.
The referee will be taking charge of his third North End game this season. He was the man with the whistle for our home clash with Stoke City back in August, which ended 2-2, and more recently the 4-1 win over local rivals Blackburn Rovers in November.

He has been in charge of some of the Lilywhites’ best moments over the years, most notably the League One Play-Off Final in the 2014/15 season, where a Jermaine Beckford hat-trick led to a convincing 4-0 over Swindon Town at Wembley.

Last season, Andy refereed four PNE games. He oversaw home victories against Reading and the final day 2-1 win over Burton Albion, as well as our games away to Ipswich Town at Portman Road and the return fixture against Reading.
He was in charge for a previous trip to Loftus Road, back in the 2016/17 season. Jermaine Beckford was on the scoresheet and Nedum Onuoha scored an own goal in a 2-0 victory as Simon Grayson’s returned from London with all three points, their first win of the season.
During that campaign, Andy refereed four more North End games including both games against Newcastle United and a 5-0 victory at Deepdale against Bristol City, where Callum Robinson netted twice.

As well as the aforementioned Play-Off Final, the official also had the whistle for another 4-0 victory in the 2014/15 season. North End convincingly beat Scunthorpe United away from home, as Joe Garner netted twice.

He was the referee for our famous Capital One Cup victory over rivals Blackpool in the 2013/14 season. Tom Clarke netted the winner three minutes from time to secure a famous 1-0 win over our rivals.

So far this season, he has refereed 22 games in all competitions, issuing 51 yellow cards and one red card. It will be the first time that he will referee QPR this season, with his last game being in April of the 2017/18 season when Rangers lost 2-1 to Brentford.

Most recently, he was in action in the Emirates FA Cup as he was the man in the middle when Chelsea beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 to secure their place in the fourth round of the competition earlier this month.

On Saturday, the ref will be assisted by Mark Russell and Rob Hyde with Andy Davies as the fourth official.

Queens Park Rangers 1 Smith Preston North End 4 Stockley, Storey, Browne, Potts

QPR line-up: Lumley, Furlong, Bidwell, Freeman, Cousins (Smith, 46), Eze (Smyth, 84), Scowen, Wszolek (Osayi-Samuel, 76), Wells, Lynch, Leistner ©. Subs not used: Ingram, Hall, Manning, Oteh.

PNE line-up: Rudd, Fisher, Hughes, Pearson, Storey, Davies, Potts, Gallagher ©, Stockley (Nmecha, 77), Browne, Maguire (Barkhuizen, 68). Subs not used: Ripley, Johnson, Woods, Ledson, Huntington.

Attendance: 13,736 (1,272 PNE fans)

Referee: Mr A Madley

Deep into injury time 4-1 up playing keep ball at the corner and the away fans singing we're taking the piss to a virtually empty ground as the home fans had disappeared long before the end. As easy as yyou like yesterday the home sides best spell either side of half time.
North End now getting back to having a full compliment of players had Davies back at centre back paired with Storey which hopefully will be the partnership for a few seasons to come although both young both extremely decent.
North End dominated the early stages and only a great clearence from a Gallagher cross by Leistner denied Stockley in on goal. Didn't matter Rangers soon cocked up, the new way of playing goal kicks play the ball to a player just outside the box went horribly wrong Browne easily robbed Scowen ball ran to Stockley first time finish goal.
Goal deflated the home side and we looked very comfortable though the home side started to get into the game towards half time, a coupe of easy saves by Rudd and Bidwell cross whistled just over the bar, like to think Rudd had it covered.
Rangers went 442 in the second half bringing on the giant Matt Smith, a scrappy first 15 minutes with Rangers the better side Wells forcing Rudd to a brilliant save and from the resulting corner Furlong's header hit the top of the bar.
We double the lead soon afterwards Gallagher free kick Maguire back flick, Storey back post, and when the third went in Gally corner, Davies header Browne back post many home fans left.
Almost immediately Rangers back in it Smith heading home from close range.gme on again not quite, Nmecha played through by Barkhuizen had a fierce shot parried away by Lumley to Potts whose first time finish was exceptional.
A game of firsts, winof the year, goals for Stockley, Storey and Potts, first away goal for Alan Browne and first goal by a central defender this season.
Finally Ben Pearson can be an utter tool at times but saw yesterday what a player he can be reads the game so well.

Loftus Road possibly has the worst seats in th away ground and they committed the unforgiveable sin of selling half and half outside the ground which should be a points deduction straight away

QPR manager Steve McClaren:

"That wasn't like us. It's the first time in a long while I've been disappointed with the performance.

"It's happened before and will probably happen again but the best thing you can do is come in on Monday morning and get the work done on the training field.

"I can't fault the players' attitude. We're making no excuses about today. Everyone has to be 100 per cent and we weren't."

Preston manager Alex Neil:

"We have spoken so many times this season about our injuries and quality players missing.

"Although we haven't got them all back you saw Ben Davies, Ben Pearson and Sean Maguire there.

"We are certainly a different proposition with those in the side and fully deserved to win.

"Jayden is 6ft 3ins and a target man, but you saw he is decent with his feet too. He has still got work to do on finishing, to be as good as he can be."
