On Friday evening Albion travel to St Andrews to resume their Championship campaign with a long-neglected derby. Aside from a run-of-the-mill FA Cup tie in 2015, the Baggies haven't locked horns with the Blues since that day in March 2011 when Scharner and Mulumbu struck to give Albion a 3-1 win and start the sequence of results that propelled us to safety and Birmingham to relegation. It's been a rough ride for the Small Heath lot ever since, and things haven't improved so far this season, with Blues sitting winless above the relegation zone.

Albion's strength so far has been at home, and as it's a local derby, anything's possible. It'd be nice to think we've got the talent to pull off a second away win of the season, but realistically, a draw would be a decent enough result to keep us ticking over.

We've got to target 3 pts here.
Blues have had some crap teams over the years, but I can't recall such doom and apathy from the Bluenoses. Hope the friendly-ish banter continues for Friday night, though I wouldn't fancy the walk up Deritend/Digbeth if we win.

I seem to recall that the pictured match above (circa February 1992) resulted in a rather "eventful" journey back to the city centre after a 3-0 Albion victory.

HaHa
I was at the Railway End with my (Bluenose) in-laws, but the atmosphere on the Tilton looked a bit menacing.
Wasn't it SuperBob's debut, and he got a couple?

Yeah, that's the one.

I think we’ve got enough quality to beat Blues tomorrow night. I expect Big Dave to play the same team as last time with our attack looking very sharp.

My only worry is our shape defensively. Blues play 442 with 2 wingers and because we play with Phillips and Gibbs as wing-backs, Blues can do what Boro did and look to exploit the space in behind them. That can drag our three centre backs out of shape and make us disjointed at the back. To combat that I’d like to use play more of a fluid shape. The usual 3412 shape in possession but with Barnes more to left of centre and Livermore higher up than usual to the right of centre almost making it a 3142 in possession. That way out of possession, we can shift to a back four with another four in front. Gibbs drops to left back and Dawson, Hegazi and Bartley shuffle across to the right to create your typical back four (Dawson covering right back). In front is Phillips on the right, Livermore and Brunt in the middle and Barnes moves to left of the four. Finally Rodriguez drops into the 10 to cover in front of Livermore and Brunt leaving Gayle on his own.

What's up with Gibbs?

RE: Blues vs WBA - Match Thread - Beefy 1965 - 14-09-2018

That's strange especially as he has been playing really well the last couple of weeks?

Just found out why?
#wba team - Townsend starts. Gibbs has been unwell this week and makes the bench. Kyle Edwards joins him https://t.co/kHBQj23mlP
