Belgium on fire! 5-2 v Tunisia - 0762 - 23-06-2018

Quali job done by Hazard and co and an improved GD in a very good game to watch. This score line was absolutely flattering for Tunisia as it could easily have been 7-2 or 8-2 and Batshuayi really should've taken the match ball home after scoring a second half 'hat trick' in about 15 mins. God help any side that faces Belgium if this guy is fully fit with that kinda attacking midfield service behind him! Lukaku again scoring a 'brace' but should've scored more although he's the 1st player to score two consecutive 'braces' of WC goals since Maradona did it in '86. Great stuff and the 'do minimum' quali target already attained!!

Yes Belgium look good, have they finally found a way to play as a team??

Yep! If they get closer to resembling a good all round club side, they poss have a chance of going far into this tournament. I'm not sure re Boyata's defensive role but that will likely evolve later now that qualification is 'done n dusted' - down to Martinez.

Belgium and Martinez have been under a lot of criticism at home and very few of their fans have travelled .......

Their squad has tremendous depth and all-round strength. On paper they, France and Brazil tick almost all the required boxes as regards their squads.

On the field however, when faced with intractable opposition, Belgium have often looked more like flat-track bullies.

If they have overcome attitude problems and believe in their own ability they are potential winners, the only obvious potential weakness being centre back without Kompany. I have a feeling the team they put out against England will say a lot about their attitude. IF they field several reserves to save players for later ........ I'd forget about them. I always think winning makes you winners.

I think the temperature/humid conditions are tortuous from what I can see in certain matches - a lotta decent players looking 'leggy' after an hour. Hence some managers will try to rest players if they can. It also looks like Belgium have minor knocks to Lukaku, Hazard, Meertens and de Bruyne. Again the choice is to favour recovery for later participation in more important matches or risk the possibility of a worse injury for a result that is not that important at this stage of the tournament but still field a fairly strong side. Agreed Kompany's defensive presence missed but I'm sure Martinez has become accustomed to that situation as Kompany has been out injured for long periods during his footie career - he'll have adjusted to that loss long before now.
