Champions League - St Charles Owl - 23-10-2014

It has long been suggested that the Premier league is the best league in the world, and I certainly think from top to bottom and from the number of teams who could actually win it, then it probably still is the most entertaining. But after this weeks Champions League results it would appear that the top English teams - maybe not Chelsea - have fallen behind other European powerhouse teams.

Real Madrid's easy demolition of Liverpool showed a huge gulf in class between the two teams, but is that a reflection of how mediocre Liverpool actually are without Suarez and Sturridge, rather than RM being superb? I think its a combination of both. RM, Bayern, Barca, Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea are probably the cream of the crop this season, with the first two I think still a decent way above the rest on their day. Man City and Arsenal are probably in the next group down and Liverpool below that.

I watch a lot of Premier League football, mainly because I can get nearly all the games for free on TV over here, and I still think its the most exciting league in football. The fact that there are 5-7 teams who could potentially win and certainly challenge for the title makes it far better than La Liga (3 teams could win, but most of the time its just 2), the Bundesligia (2 teams max at moment and probably realistically only 1!!) and Serie A (Juve have dominated recently but maybe another 2-3 could challenge) and certainly towards the end of the season the top and bottom of the league produces some great entertainment.

What are your thoughts?

Stick your mortgage on Real winning the big pot again. They will walk it Thumb up

RE: Champions League - St Charles Owl - 23-10-2014

I am not convinced they will walk it, they will walk the group stages but I think Bayern would definitely provide a stiff challenge to them. Not sure any of the other teams can hold a candle to either of them, but on any given night you never know!!

RE: Champions League - Thurnscoe_OWL - 23-10-2014

Everyone thought Bayern would do Real last year. What happened? Real smashed them into the ground and everyone laughed at Chezzie (where's he gone Huh) because he loves tika taka and boring football Laugh

Real Madrid controlled the game tonight without even having to break a sweat. Liverpool saw a lot of the ball but Real controlled the tempo and ultimately, made Liverpool look silly

RE: Champions League - Maddix - 23-10-2014

I'd just like to point out that I did have Real to beat the scousers 3-0 and they were also my team of the week in SWO's league Smartass

It was so obvious in was 'UNREAL' Doh Liverpool have been rubbish in defence all season and with Madrids attack there was only going to be one outcome Thumb up

It's a good job Bale was missing or I'd have never got my prediction correct Cool

They're that good they were beaten by Olympiakos last night Laugh

RE: Champions League - Thurnscoe_OWL - 23-10-2014

I reckon Chelsea/Real Madrid. If I had to choose (I already have) I'd go Real

RE: Champions League - St Charles Owl - 23-10-2014

I definitely think Chelsea have a chance, especially as they now have a proper striker in Costa, but they will need to keep him fit and the rigours of the Premier League and CL may mean he has to sit some games out. Mourinho definitely has them organized defensively so they are always hard to beat but now have an attacking flair to go with it.

Can't see Juve making it, they will come up against one of the big teams and two legs will prove too much for them!!

Can't see past the Spaniards myself. Possibly Munich with a run of luck.

I still don't think Barca are quite there defensively yet. Can't argue with their forward line though!!! A team like Chelsea or Bayern, solid and well organized, could definitely be Barca's undoing.
