RE: Fixtures 2017/18 - Lord Snooty - 21-06-2017

What's your prospects of bouncing straight back like then?

If the team can gel and hit the ground running I think we've got a great chance but L2 is going to be wide open and very unpredictable this forth coming season. I would be happy with Top 3 or Top 7.

As I said I still think we need an established player or two especially in the spine of the team but if we can do that we should have a good chance and the 18/1 will start to look a decent e/w bet .

Well we've got good odds to get promotion which is around about 4/1 whereas winning the league is around about 18/1. Now I would rather get promotion and if we win the league it will be an added bonus.

I know where my money would go and neither promotion or playoffs would be in the running.

I know its hard to be optimistic Dancing but we need to believe and have hope.

RE: Fixtures 2017/18 - bluepooch - 21-06-2017

Dancing has become embittered like quite a few fans in recent times .I myself have lived in hope that things aren't quite as bad as they make out.Its clear the budget had to be cut and considering this the signings so far on paper dont look too bad and obviously there is more left in the kitty to bring more in .Of course the proof of the pudding will be when the season commences and we see how good we are on the field which in my eyes is all that matters but to some no matter how well we do on the pitch there is now a ground in determination that all is not well any more and will not be until the current regime goes .
I must admit It will be interesting to me to see the reaction from these detractors if it turns out that the season progresses into a succesful one ,will it be one of admittance of perhaps being a little hasty in their condemnation or a blind doggedness and determination to stick to in their unwavering beliefs.

RE: Fixtures 2017/18 - Devongone - 22-06-2017

I am afraid I think Dancing is being a realist. As I pointed out on another thread we haven't a player in midfield or up front who has completed more than ONE full season in the league football. If you compare the known quality of our signings with other teams in the division we are way down, and we had very little quality by the end of last season anyway.

Unfortunately our squad currently looks like nothing so much as the ragbag of hope and hidden potential GC got together last season. It's wildly unbalanced and contains no one who looks like the b of the bang.

But in Division Two a great deal of any success hinges upon how very similar levels of talent are deployed and developed, how team spirit holds together, how fit and confident the players feel and how strongly THEY believe they are capable of winning games. We have a lot of younger players. They might be easily discouraged by early failure. Equally youthful enthusiasm might carry them through.

I'd want at least 33/1 to make us even a viable bet to win the league. I'd currently list us amongst the favourites for relegation, not only because of our squad and manager, but also because of our off-field situation.

That doesn't mean I, or supporters like me, want to see such things. It is our worst fear! I want Joe Rowley to be buzzing through our every opponents' midfield. I want Ricky German and Gozie Ugwu to come through and prove the talent I think they possess. I'd love to see Laurence Maguire looking far cooler and more comfortable than brother Harry at Leicester. I want Tommy to come back and show us he's at least one of the best in the lower leagues. I'll be delighted if GC is capable of achieving that as will Dancing and every other detractor. We'll heap praise on him because he'll have done it against all the odds! And we'll probably find ourselves in Division One looking for a manager because he'll be having another go at the Championship with a bigger club with fewer problems.

RE: Fixtures 2017/18 - Dancingwilldoit - 22-06-2017

If GC can pull this one off then I will run down our street naked - now where have heard that one before?
This season will be determined in the first month, do well and we might survive, a poor start and I don't think we will get over it. As Dev says if by some miracle GC takes us up I will be ecstatic but if after 2 months we are in the bottom 6 or 8 he needs to go.
